Title: Asheville, NC area??
Post by: blind one on July 19, 2010, 11:37:00 AM
Hi folks, I havent posted for awhile but have been reading a bunch. I was wondering if anybody could give me some insight on the asheville area? Due to the fact that I have been laid-off from my job and we are tired of Illinois, We are wanting to relocate. I was curious about the housing and job market. Our family is ready to start over elsewhere and I figure I need to hear from people I trust and you folks have never let me down....If this post shouldnt be here please delete.....Thanks, Roy

I live in the area. The housing and job market around here are about like the rest of the country  right now, a little slow. We are probably better off than some areas not as good as others. You might be able to do some searching on the internet to get some specific numbers. If you get down this way look up the Blueridge Bowhunters. I'm a member and we have a get together every Thursday evening and shoot 3d targets and cookout. We would be glad to have you. About half of our members are traditional archers.

Thanks Scott, I have been working for an excavating company and the last 2 years have been real hard on us. 90% of our work is new homes and with the economy we havent been doing anything. We love the area down there and figured we would check it out first. We arent locked into there, but my fiancee said we have to go south.   :D

I live in Brevard, about an hour southwest of Asheville. I'm a Realtor but 1 1/2 years ago went back to work for a landscape co I worked for 15 years ago.
This is a great area to live in if you can find work.

William, I just retired from the excavating business and I always found if you find a city with a militay base close by there will always be construction work. My uncle retired from Ft. Bragg in North Carolina and he tells me there is quite a bit of construction around Ft. Bragg now. Ft. Bragg is located at Fayetteville, NC. Our son is stationed at Ft. Drum, NY and there is alot of construction going on there. My wife and I just got back from there cause our son and his unit just got back from Iraq. It is located at Watertown,NY. It is in the northern part of NY with lots of deer, bear and turkey. Hope this helps.

Yes, lots of construction on Military bases. Lots happening in Huntsville, AL. (Redstone Arsenal).
Ashville is a great place by the way!

Thanks for the tips. We are looking at the suggested areas online now. I used to deliver parts to a plant at asheville and really liked it.
