I've tried to make a few of the scratch boxes lately. I'm wondering about the chalk. You guys say to use oil less chalk. Will chalk made for pool cues work? Thanks.
I don't think so, i know that blue chalk line chalk works it comes in a half sphere. It can be bought at a local hardware store. Or you can purchase box call chalk from Cabelas or similar places.
The chalk I like to use on a box call is medium brown in color and softer than other types of chalk. It helps roll the yelp over better and just icreases friction for better clucks and purrs as well.I got it years ago in a big chunk.I am not sure where you can find it.But its the best for box calls bar none
I have always been told to just go buy kids side walk chalk. I have used this and it seems to work pretty good.
What Tim said.
Im with Tim and Sunny
I use pool cue chalk on mine and it seems to work OK for me.
Somewhere I have a stick of glow in the dark sidewalk chalk. I'll have to dig that out. Then I won't have to worry about losing my calls in the wee small hours before dawn :)

as long as it dont got oil in it you are o.k. the old railroad chaulk is best for markin box cars.

Kids sidewalk chalk works great.
Has anyone use the stuff Primos is using on their box calls looks like it's painted on and works when wet, if so were can you buy it ?......stabow
