Well I just could not stand it any longer, and removed that ugly camo job paint.

Nice job.
That looks fantastic! Looks like you just gave her new life, or atleast a prettier life.
Travis
Much better.
Definitely better. Great job!
Very nice.I was so hoping you would get that paint job off that thing.
Beautiful! I'm really developing a "thing" for the Super K's. That is a nice one!
How about a little how to?
How did you get all that paint off without damaging the underlying glass, stickers, coins, nock overlays, etc.?
Nice work btw.
Good job, that looks fantastic. Love the super kodiaks, they have a classic shape.
Very nice, don't know why someone would camo a bow that color anyway.
Way to go, Cottonwood, what a nice job you did taking away ugly and leaving good looking! I agree with Whip and jess stuart. I'm beginning to get that same feeling when I see a nice Super Kodiak that I get when I see a '57 Chevy, both are "classics" in my book.
:clapper:
Much gooder!

Wow a 1976 Grayling built Super K was under all that goo. Nice job.
Great Job!! on the 76 Super-K Now go down to Trad History and Collecting, and look up Bowdocs Refinishing 101 thread. and get that baby looking good as new

The Grayling 76 needs and will be getting sent off later to The Bow Hospital for a full restoration.
I had called Lamont at 3Rivers I believe, and he said because the previous owner more than likely used Rustolium paint to test first with thinner, or alcohol, and if that did not work to use acetone on a rag. He said it would not harm the laminat or the glass. It didn't even hurt the decals on the limbs as you can see.
Here is a video I did this morning for another forum board that we have what is falled First Shot Friday (FSF) of each week, where we take our first shot on some specified target. This week I called it as I won last weeek, to hit a ketsup package inside a water bottle suspended, from a sitting on butt position from 10 yards.

I just did it to do it, since I called the event for this week I was not counting my shots for score.
very nice work very nice bow you gotta love em bd
Looks like some fun in the video. Whats your brace height set at on the ole Girl..
Rob..
Rob the brace height is right at 10"
When asked by Dan Bertalan what bow he'd pick of all era bows, Fred Bear said he'd go right back to 1976 and grab a Super Kodiak.
Joshua
Nice job
Elbow grease I'm sure...lol. Seriously, I've refinished 2 SK's and the finish on those old Bears is really thick. You need to do a fair amount of sanding before you reach glass and wood. Add the paint that was on Cottonwood's bow and I'm sure you've got a real sanding job on your hands. I use 80 or 100 grit to start out and work up to 220. It's a whole lot of work but well worth it.
Very nice
Tracy
Nice work. Those Super Ks are sweet shooting bows.
I want another one now.... LOL
My first hunting bow was a one piece Bear 60", 40# @ 28" Super Kodiak that looked exactly like the one in the photo. I sold it in 1978 and I regret that decision to this very day. :banghead:
Cottonwood, very nice Super K. Curious as to why a 10" brace height ? I shoot alot of Supers and find they shoot well between 8 and 8 1/2". Thats measured from the deepest part of the grip to the string. Oh...you will never own too many Super Kodiaks !

I don't know why the 10", but the measurement I took yesterday gave 10" on this one. Maybe I got to many twist in the string, as when I got it, all the strands were staight with no twist. Maybe I will back it down and see how it shoots with less twist to the string.
Right now it is shooting so nice. Here is a video I did yesterday, for a FSF that we do on another traditional forum board. The object was to hit a ketsup pack suspended inside of a empty water bottle from sitting on the ground at 10 yards.

This morning I went out with a differant arrow, using an Easton Legacy 2020 cut at 29.75" with a 160 gr tip.
