Title: Austin, TX trad shops ??
Post by: WestTnMan on May 10, 2007, 02:57:00 PM
Headed down to Austin this weekend. Are there any traditional shops in the area?? I always stop in archery shops when we travel. Of course, we will have to stop at Cabelas in Buda, TX !! Even the little lady likes Cabelas.

No trad-only shops here, but we do have an archery shop:   Archery Country (http://www.archery-country.com/) .

Bob Sarrels, who builds awesome longbows, is also an Austinite:   Sarrels Archery (http://www.sarrelsarchery.com/) .  Not a storefront--he works from his home.

Enjoy Austin!

Before I got into trad I stopped by Archery Country once; the dude looked at me like I was from Pluto when I asked about aluminum arrows - I don't remember seeing anything trad there, but I didn't hang around long after the reception I got.

Yeah, I had heard the same about them.  Thankfully, they are under new ownership.  I have not been, but hear they are good people.

New ownership is great....I grew up in Austin and kept away for a long time until someone convinced me to go back.  I believe there is a trad league that shoots there on Thursday nights?  They will try to help with anything they can and I know at least some of the guys shoot trad bows in addition to compounds.  A great place to stop and chit chat anyway.  They love to talk bowhunting regardless of the tackle.

Yes, they used to host a trad only shoot on Thursday's and it was a blast.  There were 15-20 guys ususally and everyone had a great time.  It is primarily a wheelie shop but there is a trad click or there used to be.
