Although I've spent a lot of time with traditional equipment, I've only recently begun to seriously contemplate tuning it properly. Most of my experience is just stump and target shooting for fun. I used to shoot 60# recurves, but have dropped back to 50#@28". I have a couple hundred cedar shafts spined 70-74#. What weight range points should I try to get them to move back to the right, as they shoot about 3-4" left at 15 yards?
Or, would I be better served to sell the shafts and purchase lower spined ones? I've decided to begin (again) to hunt with my recurves, but will not do so unless I can be assured my equipment is shooting where I'm looking! Thanks.
I just realized the information I provided about didn't was incomplete. I'm presently shooting 125 grain points.
Andy: 160 grain points just might do it. Might you be able to flatten the strike plate some? If there's a toothpick behind the leather, try removing it, or if it's just a thick piece of leather, try replacing it with a thinner one. I don't think you'll need much in either case. I shoot 70-75# spined cedars out of my 52# Bear T/D. Good luck.
Get the point weight up to 160-175 and you should be in the game. Probably shoot them around 31".
Really can't say until you try them out with heavier heads.

I ordered some weights from 3R...75, 100, and 125 grains. I'll see which one gives me the best arrow flight and go from there. This should prove to be interesting.
Depends on the bow and how center cut the riser is. Most modern RC or R/D bows of 50# will need that spine with a HPME string. If it does not work I will gladly buy them.
I ran some 70-75# douglas fir arrows through my NTM Habu Viperkahn(50@28 & cut 1/8" past center) today. All 8 arrows had 125 gr points, but 2 also had 75 gr woody weights, 2 had 100, and 2 had 125 grainers added. The heaviest ones weighed 700 grains. I plan on running them through my chrony this weekend. Anyway, the ones with 250 grains up front actually shot the best. Whodathunkit?!
