I shoot wood but my wife uses carbon. I use my dremel with the cutoff wheel like you've mentioned above. It works great for no more carbons than I build.
I picked up one of the Harbor Freight mini cutoff saws after reading post here about them. I never did get another wheel to cut carbons with it as I use it on my fir arrows with the standard wood blade. I'm sure it would work great with the proper wheel on carbons and it's very reasonably priced.

For aluminum arrows I use a small pipe cutter.  Cost me about $5 and works just fine.  I do have to file off any burrs, but that takes about 10 seconds with a small round file.

On aluminums, I've used a tubing cutter with fairly good results.  Once they're cut, just use and oversized drill bit to remove the bur on the inside of the shaft.  Not the preferred method, but it works if you don't have access to a cutoff saw.

I used to use a hand mitre saw before I got my Harbor Freight cutoff. It was cheap and by using the guide, you could make a straight cut. Wood only of course!

I use the Harbor Freight mini saw, mine cost $19.95 and that was a couple of years ago.Still working great, made a jig from some scrap I had for repeatable cuts.It has more then paid for itself with as many carbons I've cut for myself and friends.

I made my own jig using a dremel.  I use the diamond dust cutoff wheel they sell for the dremel.  It's a metal wheel about 1.5"- 2" in diameter.  It cuts like a dream.  It seems to last forever too.  I like it cause it does not have a tendency to come apart like some of the fiber cutoff wheels do.

For deburring aluminum arrows after cutting them with a tubing cutter I have been using a deburring tool for reloading rifle ammo.

Luckily, I work in  machine shop, so I just take an indicator, indicate my vise within .001, (just to make sure my cut is square) touch the cut off wheel on the surface grinder off the end of the arrow, move back whatever distance I need and cut 'er off.  But that's just me.

Seriously, it took me longer to type that than it does to actually do it.  The diamond clad dremmel wheels work really well too.

I use a small tube cutter from a hardware store on my alluminums.  I only have a few woodies that I had cut for me.

I have the Apple cut-off saw -- much more than I 'll ever need but it sure is slick. I never heard of the Harbor Freight saw-sounds like a good deal.  For many years I used tube cutters on Aluminum with no problems. Just be careful to take little turns and cut slow so you don't pinch the tube end. The bur inside the shaft is easy to remove. I have a dremel but have never used it on arrows.  I probably could have used it though as I only build 3-4 dozen arrows/year for my son and I.

I use Apple Mfg  Arrow Cut off saw...

It works great....Blade is super thin and makes a fine clean cut..

Pipe cutters tend to pinch the shaft that can make it difficult to fit the insert into the opening...then you may have to ream it out to make insert fit...

Cut off saw  eliminates that>>>

Kinds watch that you don't breath the dust from the grinding wheels when cutting carbon arrows.  It is not very good for your lungs.

Another one for the Harbor Freight Cut Off saw.  I think I got mine for about $25 a few years ago.  No problems with it, use it all the time for carbons or wood.  :archer:

+1 on using an ammo reloading chamfer and deburring tool on aluminum shafts.  Over 15 years ago I bought a horizon cutoff saw.  It has done a lot of arrows and it will probably last my lifetime.

For aluminum arrows, I use a small pipe cutter.  It works just fine.  To de-burr, I use a countersink drill bit by hand.

Get a pack of the 3" cutoff blades with it because it comes with a wood blade.  I have the same set up and it works great.
