Not a real purty critter, for sure!!! Small scales, really low slung eyes...big mouth, they feed on plankton I guess.

Wow, never seen one of those before. Sounds like a blast!

UGLY, in that first pic it kinda looks like a sharks head, even looks like he has teeth.

Homely but nice. Did you shoot it out of a boat or from shore?
-
Nice goin Brad. Kind of a strange lookin critter.

Very nice fish. That spot you are bowfishing looks uncannily like a place Charlie Lamb and I stopped at two years ago while in route to MOJAM. There were lots and lots of carp cruising the surface in the tailrace of a little chute like you are at. It was on the edge of a state park where there was a small lake spillway dumping in a long skinny creek. Sure looks exactly the same. CK

I was thinkin the same thing Curtis!!

Way to go Brad! Gotta love bowfishing. Did you hit him in the head? I've heard that those big heads will pull off the arrow pretty easy if you don't get a head shot. Just curious, as I'm going to a place next weekend that has a lot of them in it.

SHOOT AS MANY OF THESES AS YOU CAN! We have them coming on strong further north in the Missouri River at Sioux City, Iowa. These bigheads feed on plankton much like paddlefish and are in direct competition with them. They are growing in population and poundage. I know of some taken around here that went over 45 lbs! Some say they are good eating, others say not. Have you tried them?

Stone Knife, I shot it from the shore...wish I had a boat!!!
Littlefeather, and Charlie, I shot this one at Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area, SW of Columbia, Mo.!!! If you come to MoJam this summer, and want to shoot some fish, let me know ahead of time, I'll find some fish, and we'll go!!! We can hit that spot on your way in, and once ya arrive, we can hit another W.A., north of MoJam!!!
Brad@work, Yes, in the throat, out the eye!!! No, I was just shootin at FISH...lol. I have hit smaller bigheads in the body, haven't lost one yet, but this big one FOUGHT...HARD!!! Glad I didn't lose him!
Everyone else....THANKS!!! The wife and I are goin again this afternoon...maybe she'll make those carp look purtier!!!
