I'm working on a special project and have never used "natural" feathers.
I'm thinking I'd like to try duck or goose instead of turkey. The shafts are river cane and bamboo.
Any thoughts? Suppliers? Suggestions?
If your state has an early goose season, try and find some hunters that goose hunt, and you'll get feathers. Here in PA, the early season is Sept 15. If no luck by then, we should hammer a few, get in touch.
duck are pretty small, goose will work well but need some work to get them to feather shape.
I just put some together with goose for the first time. I'm impressed with their look and durability.
Raven arrows in Idaho has natural goose feathers.
You can by from them. Or, like was suggested get some goose feathers and make your own. If I was to do that though I would wait until late fall or winter to get those feathers. Birds arent feathered up very well in the early seasons.
I assume you are going to grind and chop them yourself. I might have some from last year. I started saving them because I was going to try it myself, but I haven't had the time.
If you're interested let me know and I will take a look. If I can't find them I will get more come September.
Goose works very good and they are very water resistant.
