Any of you guys have much experience with the age old "Ace" broadheads???? Was looking at the "original" broadhead at 125 grains and the 100 grain"lightweight" broadhead. The 165 grain head looks to have some merit as well! What I'm wondering about is flight charachteristics, sharpening ease versus edge holding capability and anything else you can tell me good or bad...many thanks....john
I use the 125's. I bought a dozen arrows from Brandywine at the Baltimore CLassic - and thats what they suggest you tip'em out with. They fly great.
I was there as well Bill. Thats the "original" head...it looks like a nice broadhead...how well do they sharpen up?????
I have been using Ace journeyman 160 grain for the last couple of years.Super tough, easy to sharpen, and great arrow flight. Glen
I truly believe just about any head is good as long as it's sharp.
Stone points work darn good.
I'm certain there isn't anything wrong with the ACE.
When I'm feeling "nit-picky" I'd chose a tanto pointed single bevel.
I just did a post about comparing the grizz 160 and the grizzly el grande 160.
If I need a 160 grain head I'll be going with the grizz reg 160. It's a little smaller but substantially thicker.
My 2ยข..Sharpen an Ace up and the critter will bleed
Hey John. I use the Ace standards, 125 and 140, 160gr,me and a couple of pals have used them with great success last year. We are all adding 25 gr. inserts to screw in to carbons. We shot 5 deer with them last year, quick kills on all and serious holes!! They fly as good as my field tips or my Wensel woodsmans do, even with 3" shield cut feathers we made ourselves. I use a pull throught 2 blade carbide shapener, pull each side through about 6 times, ready to hunt!! This works as good as sharpening them on a stone, or the buffing wheels in my gun shop. I shot 3 doe with them, 30-35 yards, great double bloodtrails, farthest recovery was 120 yds. Holler back, Sam.
I've been considering the Ace Standard for quite some time. See it as a replacement head for my older Bear Razorheads which I've been using for years. Glad to see this post. Very informative. Thanks for sharing.
125s and 140s, they sharpen up real nice and easy and fly like field points. The price is right but your still getting quality.
John, Ive been shooting the Ace Express 165 for several years and have been very happy with it. It sharpens easily to a very sharp edge and seems to hold that edge well. It doesn't have the laminated tip like the standards, but I file a tanto like point on them and have never had one curl, bend or break. They fly very well for me, but I'm kinda anal about mounting them straight.
I use the 160s and as long as they are mounted correctly they will fly great. It is my understanding that if you ever do curl one send it back and it will be replaced.
i will be using 175's on a pig hunt this year, glad to hear the good things!
sounds like I'm making a good choice all the way across the "ACE" spectrum.Sam, glad to hear of your success with these...hope to do as well this year myself!!! I'm suprised you don't see them mentioned more often on here...thanks for the good info guys...any others with an opinion??? thanks...john
OK guys...just to save the confusion...this Is JACKDAW...I just happen to be on the "18thcentman" computer and didn't switch over to my screen name...LOL.....john
I use the 200 grain Ace and will echo what others say about sharp/flight/cost characteristics.
Only thing I've cut with them, was a chipmunk...yep, right in half!! It's a big blade... :D
I took a nice Maine moose with a 175 head. It went right through and out the far shoulder. Performed beautifully and they sharpen like a dream. My favorite head. - jwingman
I love the Ace heads, there isnt a bad one in the bunch! Ive got a 6 pack of the Ace Express 165gr heads thatll be on my 480gr douglas fir arrows this fall for deer, elk, bear and the rare coyote, it doesnt matter! They sharpen well with the KME and a 2 sided Norton stone!
think I like the 165 grain express heads the best right now. Sot some 165 grizzlys the other day and they flew nicely...hopefully these will fly as well...like the double bevel blades...
I use an ACE Super Express 200gr on one of my bows. Great flight and tuff. Sharpens easily and hold an edge well. Its a big blade and makes a nice trail.
Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but I had a question. How close are these heads to the advertised weight? I ask cause I've seen some heads go 10 grs or more over the advertised weight and some go under 5 grs or so.
thanks!
I bought a pack of 160's recently. Three were exactly 160, two were a couple of grains over and one a couple light.
Sam
I love 'em !
Been using them for years ...
Great people to deal with too !
Have most all size Ace heads but lately have shot 160's on heavier arrows. Easy to sharpen & hold a very good edge. Above, doubt 10 grains will make any noticeable flight difference.
I use the 200s, but they're pretty much the same design, just bigger. Mine fly very well, are easy to sharpen, and are tough. Opened up a HUGE hole in a coyote a couple months ago. I sure like mine.
Ace heads rock! As folks have already said, excellent quality, easy to sharpen, and fly great. I've use the standards for several years now with excellent results. Got a half dozen of the 175gr Super Express' that I'm going to try out on turkey this spring. They look like they'll cut a BIG hole.
They're built just up the road from me and I have never tried them. Thinking about picking some up at Kzoo.
Like Izzy says...
I shoot the 125's - line 'em a lot.
I shoot the 200 gr Super Express, and have always been amazed at how well that big ole thing flies. Plus, it's one of the easiest heads to file-sharpen I've tried.
I have tested just about every head available. By every measure the Ace standard 160 comes out with the very best. Very tough, sharpens very easily whether file or gadget method, mount true, hold the edge for a long time and through the animal, no noise or wind plain when mounted true, zip through bone like butter, blood trails as good as any three blade (Except snuffers), and econimical (low cost and you can't bust em, ruined 2 grizzly el grandes, many ribbies, can;t break the ace). And most important- Made in the USA
I guess I give them two thumbs up
I like Ace too, all of the above plus they look cool!! Bob
This was the first year I used them, i was using the 160 grain standards, they flew good and sharpened easily. A really good broadhead IMO.
I've been using the 125-grain Standards since 2004 on everything from small game to bull moose. Nothing but excellent results.
I've always liked a big heavy head so I use the Super Express 200gr. Ace heads are tough and sharpen easy.

Have shot the 140's and they fly like darts out of my Bob Lee--Sharpen up great and perform great on black bear & deer.
