Title: Feather placement
Post by: FerretWYO on July 09, 2010, 07:57:00 PM
What difference is there between putting a feather say 1/2 inch from the bottom of the nock grove to say 1 inch?

Is the spine affected by the placement of the fletching?

The farther the feathers are from the point of the arrow, the more they stabilize the arrow.  As a practical matter, though, I would say that the difference between 1/2" and 1" would be negligible.  The reason I say that is that those of us who use Rick Welch's method of anchoring move the feathers down further than that.  In my case the base of the quill is 2" from the valley of the nock, and I notice no difference at all.  Certainly it hasn't hurt Rick's accuracy any, whether in competition or hunting with broadheads.

The difference is 1/2"  ;)  Zero effect on spine or anything else except it gives you more room when nocking an arrow. :archer:  ...Van

I fletch mine ar 1 1/8 inch.  I've had issues with my tab/glove clipping the rear of the fletch when fletching less than 1".

The difference in spine and guidance is zip.
