I was wondering about the scratches on my bow. I would like to buff them out, but don't know what to use. HELP!!!
I don't like scratches either, but I save them up until I think I have enough to warrant professional refinishing. I'm not handy enough to do it myself.

carnuba wax goes on My selfbow every other month just to keep sealed.
I wax my longbows and recurves with SC Johnson Paste Wax - Furniture Wax. It used to could be purchased in one pound cans--had mine 20 years or so, and there is approximately 1/3 left.
I just rub it on the bow and leave it unless I want to show it off to someone. Apply several times per year.
Never had to get one refinished - yet.
I have not waxed them yet.
Someone told me that Tru oil works good to protect from rain, I have just received it but not tried.
It might work for the scratches.

I like Johnson's paste wax as well. I have not had mine for quite 20 years yet, but it works great on guns too, and as a cast bullet lube for those of you so inclined.

The final finish step on my bows (did one today 8^) is to use a soft chino rag to rub off all the misc. dust... fine sanding, plain dirt, talcum powder from rubber gloves... that it picks up during the work process, just being in a shop environment and test shooting, then put on a coat of Turtle Wax and rub that to a shine. Like Captain Kirk, my can of T wax has been around so long I don't even remember what house I was living in when i bought it, and it's still about 1/2 full. I have a schedule for touching up the bows I'm shooting... when I think of it, or get around to it, or notice the T wax can is out...
I've cleaned up some old bows using toothpaste and an old wet t-shirt. It will polish them up and get rid of the scratches. But it can't be the gel kind, use the white kind of gritty kind.
I spray furniture polish on my bows and rub it on real good a few times a year also. I've just used standard old Pledge. This Tamerlane had little scratches all over when I got it. About an hour of toothpaste and it's slick as a mirror.

They're not scratches-they're scars! Character building wounds from battles in the woods! :D (Although I have been known to try to polish one out). If you get a ding you can also use an iron and a wet cloth to raise the wood then buff etc.
I also use Johnson's paste wax. If you have a bow with a real glossy finish, you can also leave the Johnson on and not buff it off to dull the finish and then when your done with hunting season, just buff it off. Then the great glossy finish is ready to look good while your on the 3D course.

When your done does it smell/taste minty fresh? :goldtooth:
I use paste wax once a month during heavy shooting or hunting times. The tooth paste trick works well.
