Centaur Archery (Jim Neaves) makes one of the best short longbows ranging from 54" -62" and there are only few "fullsize" longbows that are as good as them. These bows are amazingly smooth despite their short length. The 60" model is smooth to at least 31" (I own a 60" and 62" and draw 30").

Dryad makes a 58" Bushwacker.  Great bows.  Fast, accurate, beautiful and made with all natural materials.  Mike and Jason are master bowyers for sure, and are great to work with.

You can't beat the Shrew Classic Hunter, my bow is 54" and 55lbs @ 29. The best shooting bow I have ever owned!

Can't leave out the Morrison Dakota and Acadian Woods Treestick...two of the best in the category, IMHO.

Your right Curveman, I thought the Harrier was available in a short length but it isn't.

Dale Stahl makes a real sweet 58"-60" hybrid longbow.  I wish I still had my Bocote riser, Amberboo cores, Bocote veneers Stahl hybrid longbow.  Dales's hybrid may not smoke like some of the carbon cored speed demons, but it a smooth, sweet shooter that is very accurate to boot.

RER makes supersweet longbows too. I have a Vortex 58" 52@28 and smooth as silk with no stack at my draw of 30 inches...
also a Little River that is 56" 52@28 and just as smooth to draw all the way back to 30 too with no stack.<><

I've never seen one, let alone shot one, BUT Wild Horse Creek bows out of KS has longbows in that 54" range that are supposed to be great.

Cactus Cal's Saguaro is in that lenght range too.

Besides that, another vote for the RE Vortex and Treadway.

Kabekona River longbows are short and sweet! I have shot one of the older JK 56" longbows and loved it. Haven't shot a Kabekona, but Jason makes some awesome bows. Mahaska longbows are also great bows. Mine is 62" and smooth as silk.

Just had to get a plug in for a couple of excellent Iowa bowyers (ok Kent spends most of his time in NM now, but he's from IA). They make some awesome short longbows.

Ooops!  Forgot about those JK bows.  Sorry, Jason. I have shot them and they are fast and smooth.  Jason continues to improve his design of an already great bow.  His new one is the KANATI.

Wingnut at Dryad bows makes a killer 58" bushwacker. All natural and shoots great with lots of speed and looks to boot. Can't go wrong with a Dryad.

I did a couple reviews on short longbows/Flatbows.
The kempf "Little Grizzly" and Quartermoon "Hornet" reviews are in my trad review pages at  www.peteward.com (http://www.peteward.com)

These are 50 and 52" bows, and if you shoot from blinds or thick bush you will realy apreciate the short bows.

For the ultimate short bow, take a look at the 48" cherokee, or jaguar mites from Risin Son Archery. Adam Proctor is the bowyer who bought the business from Harry Elburg. I've had a few of Harry's bows and still have a 48" Jaguar Mite. It's one of my all time favorites.

Kota Prairie Fire is 58"-62".  My husband has a 60" and loves it.  I have a 50" Maddog longbow for my 22" draw.  I love it, all zebrawood.  It is silent and hard shooting.

I just bought a gently used Ancient Spirits Sequoia...it is 58" and 48#@28".  It isn't here yet but I have heard it is smooth with NO stack out past my draw length of 28".  I can let you know soon...HOPEFULLY!

Didn't see anyone mention Elberg. Ya don't know what ya missing if ya haven't shot one. Tree stand, blind, still hunting or 3-D shoots. It does it all.
