I've been using D97 and like it. 12 strands for my longbow. Is there an advantage to using D10 or 450+ ? Seems like if I tried a skinny string with these, it would have less stretch. Would it produce less noise?
what is the draw weight of you r bow?
d97 is a high perf. string what is your setup now.
I've been a big fan of D-97 for quite a while, but I've been testing the D-10 and I think there's a good chance it's even better. The stuff hardly creeps, and is just as fast and may be even quieter than D-97.
SBD Bowstrings did a lot of testing too, and have switched from D-97 to D-10 as a result. They are only interested in making the best possible string, and they feel D-10 is an improvement.
I'd imagine that most of us in the stringmaking business are only interested in making the best possible strings for our customers.
I have no plans to switch. 'Course my opinions are a bit different than SBD's when it comes to strings.
I haven't tried the material yet, but I get a lot of feedback from a lot of excellent archers, including a World Champion--folks who shoot a lot better than I ever will, and take their equipment very seriously.
From what I can gather, the main difference is the cost--at least based on the way I make strings.
Old Fast Flight was SK 65Dyneema. Dynaflight '97 is SK 75 Dyneema--a significant improvement. Dynaflight 10 is SK 78 Dyneema--a slightly higher grade, quite a bit more expensive. Worth the difference? Not to me, at least not yet.
450+ is a decent material, and I carry it, but don't get many calls for it.
If you want to try out a small diameter string, I suggest Formula 8125. A smaller strand diameter than Dynaflight '97, but almost as strong (120# test vs. 125# test) and very low stretch/creep. 10 strands will make a very small diameter string, and still be safe for a fairly heavy draw weight--plus have enough strands in it to help avoid a disaster in the field if a few strands were to be cut, abraided, etc.
Until I learn of a significant difference, I don't plan on investing in Dynaflight 10.

BCY D-10 material (100% SK78 Dyneema) is quieter, has less creep and is 20% stronger than SK75(DynaFLIGHT 97) I think BCY D-10 is the better product.
I did some research last night and have to agree D10 has some enhanced characteristics over D97. I also have to say that the improvement is not worth the extra cash per foot of material. ts. SK78 Dyneema Vs SK75 Dyneema. That is a tiny difference in the tensile strengths of the two materials.
wv lungbuster, I am curious how you got the 20% stronger factor. Not saying your wrong just curious.
Lowell I read the product info at 3 rivers archery.
How can I tell if my bow will support a string other then standard dacron?
20% sounds impressive, but it boils down to less than 30# per strand difference, or 1-2 strands in a string.
Quieter is subjective--some bows "like" one material better than another. How the string is made, tuned, nock fit, release, silencer type and placement, etc. will all make a MUCH bigger difference in noise than SK75 vs SK78.

On a couple of bows I replaced the D-97 with D-10 I noticed it seems quieter and increased speed. I've heard the same with others that have tried it.
Thanks all, Shooting a Hummingbird LB @45#. Currently use 12 strand D97 padded to 14. Since i have 2 spools of D97, don't think I'll switch at this time. Might try an 8 or 10 strand padded of course. I'm not totally convinced a skinny string will give much of an advantage.
Dynaflight97 has been my favorite material for about 12 years or so. I tried fast-flight, 450 Premium, 450+, dacron, some braided stuff called "Nitro" or something like that was supposed to be greatest ever (which I was greatly disapointed with as it creeped a ton).
In the end, I always ended up going back to dynaflight97.
That said, I have not yet tried the D10, but it sounds worth looking into...I remember learning about the different dynema fibers from BCY over a decade ago...here is one of those topics from a decade ago. http://***********.bowsite.com/TF/lw/thread2.cfm?threadid=26019&category=88#262623
