Title: Your favourite threads
Post by: cacciatore on June 30, 2010, 03:37:00 PM
What are your favourite threads?
I like the ones with pics of the bows,
the ones with hunting stories and pics,
the tecnical ones and tutorials.

i like the tutorials.  i also like the hunting stories with pictures...those with the breathtaking beauty of the mountains and the beauty of the swamps and the sunrises and sunsets.  Probably the ones i like the best, though, are the beauty and innocence and joy of the children.  :)

I would say that my favorites are the stories. Not all of the good ones are hunting stories either. I find there is something to be learned from almost every story here. I am very thankful for that.

Bow Pics for sure.
Build alongs such as quivers, strings, bows or the like.
Traditional hunting pics
I also like the one that I haven't contributed to yet.  The What do you look like thread.  It's always fun to put a face with a personality.

LOL Rob!

My favorite threads are the ones where people show pictures of their home turf, where they hunt and the type of wildlife they encounter. Seeing pictures of hunt spots the world over is what I really enjoy.  The pictures dont need to be dead animals...live animals and landscape shots are probably my favorites.  I also enjoy a good hunting story and old school pics.

I doubt many will remember this thread as it pre-dates Trad-gang if I remember correctly.

Terry can correct me if I'm wrong historically but I believe that there was at one time a site that no longer exists called "The ***********". I believe there was a split that occurred and this wonderful place is an off birth from that.

Anyway there was an absolutely side splitting thread named "Bow Test on a Dead Cow!"

If anyone is interest you can e-mail me as I have a copy of the thread in a PDF file.

God bless,Mudd

As I recall it, your facts are real close if not right on, Mudd. (Not sure LW is gone though - I haven't checked it since coming to TG shortly after it started but I still hear/see mentions of it.)

Too funny Ray, just another complainer looks like....you know, its amazes me that folks that don't like this site sure spend a whole lot of time here.  I don't even know why they bother.  They also never have any hunting stories.....wonder if they even hunt, or know how to, or are afraid of the dark.....

I Like looking at bows but get bored with threads on EVERY new bow that someone gets .
LOve hunting stores with pics. especialy when its in someones home turf. Love looking at different areas of the country and seeing how you manage them for huting .
Like pcitures of deer that are NOT   over 130, but were hard won .
Like pics and stories of knives especially guys who are not pros, YET.
Like seeing story's of kids with their family shooting and hunting.

I am aware of "LW II" and I believe it's the other side on the split. I will go there on occasion as a few other sites but this is "home" for me. I'm one of those so insecure I need a little protecting...lol Not!!!!! I think that the folks that run this site have the "right formula" and following "it" any young person's parents anywhere can have complete peace of mind when their loved ones come here and hang out.

It ain't church but it's family and we are treated as such. Sometimes that means "tough love" and that's "way cool" as far as I'm concerned.

Dang it! I got side tracked but to get back on.. there are a bunch of threads on here that are worth reading more than once.

IMHO
God bless,Mudd

Terry nailed that one on the head.    :knothead:

I know several trad guys that bad mouth Trad Gang and ask why I even bother with it. My guess is that they got booted by the mods and are bitter.

My favorite threads always seem to be the ones that involve discussion of the differing options on trad equipment, shooting form, etc...  When these topics that are held in a positive and informative manner they give me the big picture.  Those posts let me see all the opinions and then find my own path to determine what works best for me.  Those posts and some great input from Terry and Rob have really helped me improve my shooting and find what shoots best for me.   I now shoot 3D, Target, and take hunting shots with confidence that I will hit what I am aiming at.

I frequent Primitive Archer, *********** and TG. I've only been on Trad Gang for about a month and it's interesting that each site has somewhat of its own personality.  I like something about all of them but one thing is consistent on all of them - the questions with no right answer. At one time I thought about creating a document so I could cut and paste the best answers I found to questions like:
What is the best bow to buy?
What is the best glove to wear?
Is 40# enough for deer?
What is the best arrow for the money?
I used to frequent several running forums and they are the same.
What is the best shoe to buy? etc.
I'm not busting the sites for this. It's a great place for beginners to quickly get great advise, but for those who have been on the sites for a long time it's interesting to see that in the end most people like the personal threads most of all. Threads that tell about hunts and adventures and especially those with pictures. I think most of us like developing friendships with people who share our common passion for traditional archery. In the end life is about people and relationships. That's what I like about these forums - friendly hunters who share their adventures.

Thank you, coaster500, for pointing us to those threads. I almost passed them by, as there was no descriptive title, just a bare link to a TG thread. But I clicked on two of them, and found wonderful stories that I had somehow missed. Great pictures, great storytelling, fascinating places!

I am not happy that I was up until nearly midnight reading them! Sleep deprivation is becoming a way of life for me, dagnabbit!

I, too, enjoy the pics & stories, but the ones I really like are:

the kids ones (Cade & Guru, Little D's pound cake) seeing the little ones getting into it gives me hope for bowhunting & archery's future
Gene & Barry
and yours Felix

That being said, I haven't run a across a thread that hasn't been worth reading

Kid threads, hunts all over the country and world(especially for game I can't hunt near me), the supportive threads and the ones were folks handle challenging subjects where opinions vary greatly but remain respectful.

There was a thread recently on hunting in Africa , and the topic got debated openly, honestly and with respect, despite there being some serious ethical differences in how many of the members viewed the whole situation.
They are my favourite type of threads , because aside from the success stories and knowledge sharing, it is the courtesy, respect and sense of place that brings me here when so many other archery forums have let themselves down with crass,  disrespectful and often hurtful vindictive postings .

My personal favorite was Osagetree's "Home grown hunting equipment" buidalong.  It was an amazing thread and story that got me addicted to Tradgang.
I also like just about any bow, quiver, arrow, etc build along, and the hunting stories are awesome medicine for when I cannot get out in the woods myself.

Allmost all , only ones that bug me are the ones that turn into arguments over how you personaly do it. "What type of bow, arrows, strings, broadheads and all in all equipment disagreements"

We are all archers lets just stand together and enjoy the shooting.     :archer2:

I'm drawn first to threads that promise pictures of recurves that I like.

However, my favorite threads are the ones where I learn something I didn't know. Of course it is nearly impossible to predict or tell from the title when a thread will provide enlightenment.

Some examples for me:
--I learned about fletching tape.
--I learned about Stu's Calculator.
--FF Strings and the added umph they provide
--Schafer, Blacktail, Rose Oak, Bear TD, and Predator threads.

I figure cacciatore, Jeremy, KentuckyTJ, WildmanSC, and others have cost me the price of a caribou hunt this year with their bow pictures!

My least favorite threads ... controversial subjects that I won't mention for fear of having this thread hijacked.
