Black Limba. also called Corina in the guitar building world. It is favored for the tonal qualities, like old honduran mahogany.

I'm sure it will work fine in the core.  There is very little performance difference  between a very wide range of core woods.  Less lam thickness is required when using the heavier, stiffer woods to get the same draw weight, so it pretty much is a wash.  I would use pretty straight, edge grain though.
