I have been swamped lately so have not had a chance to post these pics. I drew a rather good elk tag this year and went up on Memorial weekend for a little scouting.
Ran into these guys. The biggest one there is pretty darn nice already and still had 3 months of growing time left!
Hope I can find him again when the time comes
I had my new Ambush recurve from Two Tracks in hand, what a shooter it turned out to be!

Thanks Shinken! I actually traded for it many years ago. I had a little gps unit for sale and "Carbon Caster" ( a fellow TG'r) offered to make me the combo in trade. He did a fantastic job and it has never failed me.
Congratulations on the draw Jake, which Unit did you draw? Make sure to take lots of pictures of your hunt so you can share them with us later.
Dan
Cool pictures. Good fronts already on the big one. Thanks for sharing, keep us posted!
Your lucky to live in such a place, I went out scouting memorial weekend too.... saw a bunch of squirrels. ;)
Great pics. I have been looking for a hat like that for a long time now. I'm guessing that one is a leftover of what once was.
Good job Jake.
Awesome pics and great looking little bow.
Keep them there till opener!!!
Frank
Great picks Jacob, Should be some good ones real soon.
Keep them coming buddy!!
Tracy
Thanks everyone!
Colorado GMU 40.
As for the hat, it was given to me by my father, and has lots of stories in it. Killed my first deer wearing it, and plan on having it along with me again this year.
Great pics Jake... need a southern boy to keep you company ? hint hint. :campfire:
Great photos Jake, How long's your draw brother? Looks like you're given that bow all it wants.
Fantastic scouting...that is the real thing--trail camera pics that is.
Lanier
You get yourself up here and you are more than welcome to keep me company.
Tom
I now draw almost 29 as I have been working on my form a little. Chuck says he pulls his personal Ambush to 30!!!
No trail cam pics here, my wife took those from a bout 400 yds away with her new SLR camera.
Best of luck to everyone this season, and thanks for the best wishes!
Jake
Thats got to get you pumped to see brow tines like that on a bull. Good luck on your hunt I hope to see you in some glory pic this fall.
thanks for the pics Jake, hope you can put the "Ambush" on one of those nice elk in a few months. It's about 100 degrees here in north TX today, but your photos sure help remind me that my favorite time of the year is only three months away.
Great pic's Jake, There are some really nice bulls in that unit.
Good pics Jake. Cant wait to come out and have you show me where those huge Mulie Bucks hang out :D
Great pics and beautiful country there! What kind of bow is that? Eric.
Eric
That is the Ambush Recurve from Two Tracks Bow company. Chuck is a top notch guy, a real pleasure to deal with and build a heck of a bow.
great pics!! hope we get to see pics of him lying on the ground with you holding the rack up!! :archer2:
The time is drawing near....
I was thinking you got lost in the mountains Jake. Have been back out to see how big he is now? I would be half tempted to come out and help you out with that big boy, it has been a long time since I was after an elk, I need to get at it. Those pics are great. Good luck.
Chuck
Neat stuff but... I learned years ago that where the elk are in June doesn't have much to do with where they'll be in September. If you're really scouting, you'll be better off looking for last year's rubs, sign that correlates better with where the elk were during hunting season. Meanwhile, have fun with your camera and enjoy getting your legs in shape! Cheers, Don
Chuck
No I have not been back out yet, but plan on it as soon as I possibly can! Head this direction and lets give them Elk a run for their money that would be great fun!
Don
I agree but disagree. I have seen it happen both ways many times. The last few years I have hunted both places that get heavy traffic of hunters and those that do not. The areas with easy access and therefore people, tend to act the way you described....come the season, the elk are not where they were.
On the other hand the areas that were tough to get to and remote, I find the elk exactly where I saw them early in the season. I think people/pressure have a huge impact on that.
Thanks for the tip though, it just so happens where I saw this big boy, is also where I found rubs and lots of other elk sign.
Is that why you weren't at the shoot Jake? Great pics! Good luck this fall!
Looks like they are real healthy. Fun, fun, fun! Looks like you have don't your homework and a plan is in motion.
Nice pics, i am leaving for Pagosaon September 12th. I think I had forgotten fo about 10 min until I looked at your photos
Man I love these elk threads. I am SOOOO envious of all y'all that get to chase these magnificent animals!! Good luck to you.
One month, 4 weeks and 2 days......!
