Title: quill width for a fletching
Post by: marsniper27 on June 26, 2010, 06:02:00 PM
I collected some white goose feathers and am hoping to make some fletchings from them. many are smaller then i was hoping for. my question is how wide does the quill have to be on a fletching for it to hold well?

Doesn't matter.  Some folks strip the feather from the quill and fletch. Width of the quill shouldn't matter as long as the feather itself is stiff enough.  Normally you have to decrease the width of the quill on wild feathers...Van

If you are using fletch tape, get them just wide enough to cover that.  If using glue, they can be thinner, but need to be wide enoughto hold up.
