I recently introduced some 3rd grade girl scouts to archery. I used the (2) 30# and (1) 20# kids' bows that I have, thinking that at their draw lengths the pull would be much lighter and manageable, but they struggled and much preferred the 20# bow. So my question to any of you who are involved with children's archery, what pound bows do you recommend for elementary age kids? 3 Rivers sells a youth bow that they recommend for ages 7-10, which is 15#@24" and 20#@28"; would this be ideal? Any suggestions based on personal experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
I have five grandchildren 4-10 and the youngest shoot 20#@24" bows and the oldest 30#@28" bow. The 20# bow was slighty stiff for the 4 year old and he didn't do real well with it until he was 5. I have added a 16#@22" longbow to the stable but they haven't tried it out yet. Only the 10 year old can shoot the 30# bow.
