Title: Help with ARROW SETUP!! Shoot 55# at 28inches...
Post by: stick_string on June 25, 2010, 08:42:00 AM
and my arrow is cut to 29inches.  I have 100 grain inserts in the arrows now, shooting Traditional Only 400s.  I have 50 grain inserts if I need to go that way...

Just curious what anyone with a similar setup shoots.

Put 200gr up front and they will fly fine.

Load the front as hunt it suggests and if they don't fly quite right try some 300 grain points.

I have your setup with exact length arrow, 100 grain brass insert and 100-125 grain points and I shoot the .500's out of four different bows. I think you are a little stiff. Of course alot depends on how your bow shelf is cut.

Not shooting the same arrow,I'm using a CX Terminator Select 45/60 for my 53# @ 28 Griffin w/ 6 strand 450+ string.  I have this arrow cut to 30" from nock grove to back of point.  100 grain brass insert w/ 125 grain steel adaptor and 160 grain point, 5" Shield cut fletching.  Point weight with insert is 385 grains.  Total arrow weight 685 grains.  Fly like lazer guided missile and hit with a lot of force.  This arrow gives me a EFoC of 27%.

Don't  be afraid to load up the point weight.

I have one bow 55 @29 shooting 30" 400 with 100 brass and 175 point.  It is cut to center LB.  Limbs, release, center cut are all factors, and you don't have much data to go from.

a 500 could work for you.  I can't get the arrow weight up on mine with500's due to the 30" shaft, but it would work better at 29".

Same basic bow setup 55@28 / 55@29.  I've had been shooting CX Terminators (45/60) cut to 29"  w/250gr up front for years and thought they flew fine.  One day I put a 100 gr. insert in (for 350gr. up front) and they flew even better.

Carbons, for me, fly much better with a big load up front.

I think you and I are dealing with similar setups and tuning questions.  I will let you know after monday when UPS brings me a box from 3Rivers which has my 250 grain points in it.  Mine are currently overspined with 145 grain points and the general consensus Im getting is with my 55# @ 28" bow and 29" 400 spine beman ics bowhunters that 250 grains up front should get me in the ball park.  If they still behave like they are overspined, I will be trying some 50 or 100 grain brass inserts to put them where they need to be.

We are about identical and I shoot an axis 400 - 250 up front, great flight. Think my arras are 28.5 long. I can go to 315 up front and do good. anything more and it gets iffy at best.

I tried 100 grain inserts and 250 BHd and lost the spine. I could go heavy if I drop a spine.

You aready ahve good advice to your question! they do make some HEAVY field points available to try and see what works best for ya.

29"400- 100 grn. insert+ 175 grn. point still not enough up front for me, but works @ 30"s

You should be good with 250 to 300 grains up front. I shoot 29in 400 axis with 250 up front pulling #55. They fly great.

Awesome...

So I gather that if I shoot 250 to 300 total weight....(insert and point) that I should be good to go!!

I tried the 300grain option this weekend and they flew great...but boy let me tell you that there is a serious difference in where my 250s and 300s (up front weight) hits on the target.  If I go with the heavy weights then I am really going to have to get used to the arc of the arrow!!

If I go up in poundage will that make me shoot more point weight?
