Title: Aging Osage
Post by: joevan125 on June 24, 2010, 12:16:00 PM
Hey guys i have a Widow that is Osage with copperhead skins and the more sun it gets the better it looks.

My question, is it ok to leave it out in the sun strung or do i need to unstring the bow when i do this.

Thanks

If it does not have glass on it leave it unstrung for sure.  Otherwise it shouldn't make any difference.

I would not leave it laying in the sun unless unstrung no matter what Kind of bow it is.Even then I would not string it back up until it had time to cool back down.

What James said!  So you are "sun bathing" your bow?

Its heat that can damage a strung bow. Make sure it is not in a closed space (like a car) or direct intense sun on a hot day. I would unbrace the bow, not much work and why take a chance. One consideration is that fiber glass is deteriorated by sunlight. Most bows have protective UV screening in the finish and the deterioration is a very slow process, so it should not be a big factor.

Apex i guess you hit the nail one the head. I will for sure keep leaving the bow unstrung while me and my bow get a tan.  :biglaugh:

Joe, cover the limbs or keep them shaded and just sun tan the riser then you won't have to worry about it.
