Just wanted to know what would be the best shaft for hunting ash or sitka Thanks which would weigh more?
Ash is quite a bit heavier, in the range of 100 grains or more per shaft, all other things being equal. Which is best depends on how you plan to use them, and, to a certain extent, your bow weight. The lighter Sitka spruce makes a good target and deer arrow for lighter bows. Might want to go to something heavier like ash, birch, maple or hickory for big critters like elk, or maybe hogs.
I shoot both, the ash is a bear to keep straight but will shoot through an elephant.Sitka has good weight, easy to straighten and pretty durable. Sitka is my first choice. I shoot everyday and Sitka holds up better than cedar or ash.
Thanks for the info right now I just deer hunt but would like to get into bear and hog hunting so I will just stick to cedar and spruce for now.
Ash is hard to get and keep straight, but is very tough. It shoots good out of a little heavier bow.
