Well been working out every day riding bike running ,backpacking. Shooting my bow, keeping all my shot 35 to 40 yard (make those nice 20yds shot look easy)
Sounds like you on the right path. I always find that no matter how much working out I do that last uphill with an elk quarter on my back is a killer! Just a little less of a killer than it would have been.
Here's a pretty good post about what others are doing. I do at least a couple of endurance races a summer (triathlons mainly), but within a month of using my flatlander lungs and legs out west I put on my pack and walk an hour a day, 6 days, a week then shoot my bow when I am tired. Keep after it!

I started the "insanity" workout this week! Think your in shape, try this! I am not in shape but feel better in 4 days of doing this so far than I have in a longtime! Sore but feel great! I actually puked on the first workout!
I came in the other after a bike ride and thought I would shoot some to see how I was doing. I need a bigger target.

Insanity is a killer as is P90x... Mine is gathering dust... but I'll stop procrastinating and get to it soon....
I finished building my new Mtn bike a few months ago and been putting the miles on it. Where I live here in So Cal near me is Mt Woodson it is approx, 1.9 miles to the top, it may not sound like much but it varies from approx 35 to 45 degree incline the whole distance. It is a leg and lung burner going up, but one He!! of a ride going down the back side of the mtn. well worth the effort, might as well have fun getting in shape!! BTW: getting ready for Colorado Elk.
I'm almost finished with week 3 of "Insanity". Started totally out of shape but feeling better now. I'm going to start adding in some running as well this week now that I'm down a few pounds. The push ups have also helped firm up my bow arm some.
