Title: Bear Hair rest available in Black???
Post by: Zradix on June 22, 2010, 10:51:00 PM
Hello!

I really like my Bear hair rest.
Does anyone know where you can buy it in black?

I've tried the rug rest from 3 rivers but it isn't thick and quiet enough for me. I've also tried Velcro. The velcro likes to catch on the feather quill if it isn't perfect. It seems the last couple of things I've tried for a plate and shelf pad have been "loopy" material.
The bear hair is more like linear fibers sticking up. The bear hair doesn't have any loops to snag feathers.
Just would look weird to put a brown pad on this particular bow.

Thank you

I actually buy 2 of the bear hair rests and use the leather side plates from both packages.  One for the side plate, and one for the shelf.  It is as quiet as the furry rest, looks better and doesn't flatten out making your nocking point a tad bit high.  I like the look of the sideplate and rest pad to match in color and when they are cut to fit, it looks like one solid piece of leather.  I went to this after my feathers kept catching the rug rest and pulling it up.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments all!!

I took a look at martin's site. The rug plate looks nice and thick as you described. The rug rest though looks very thin in their pic. I wonder if they changed material but haven't ran out of the thicker plates yet...???

The ones on KK's site look about right.

I've been using beaver fur that's been shaved down to the thickness of the Bear rug rests.  They're grey, but it'd be easy to dye black.
