Title: KME knows sharp!
Post by: JC on June 22, 2010, 08:13:00 PM
A couple of weeks ago at the Blade Show here in Atlanta I spent 3 days in steel heaven with my sons, Tippit, Doug and Karen Campbell, the Wilsons and a bunch of other Tradgangers. At Lin Rhea's table I was finally able to meet and shake the hand of Ron Swartz of KME fame.

My conversations with Ron were enlightening to say the least. This guy knows what it takes to get a piece of steel sharp....and his experience is from a veritable lifetime of tinkering with developing the best sharpening products on the market. I advanced my sharpening knowledge by years in just a short show and tell/question and answer period with Ron. It's always refreshing to find someone who matches up with the considerable hype that precedes them. Take a bow Ron, you are definitely on my list of experts.    :readit:

I've heard and read the testimonials but I'm always skeptical when it comes to "gadgets" that supposedly work better than my tried and true methods gleaned from hard knocks and hands on experience. After a few minutes with Ron and the KME knife sharpener, I realized he and his product were certainly no gimmick....these guys are the real deal.

After a few weeks of working on just about every blade in my house, I'm sold on the KME and it's superb value for the money. You won't find a better sharpener at any price, imho. Anyone, with only a bit of practice and advice from the guys at KME can get a wicked edge from any reasonable angle and any reasonable level of edge polish. It's just that good. One tip that bears mentioning, actually, that bears mimicking Ron, is "let the stones do the work." The quality of the stones supplied in the kit really only need light pressure to work. Follow the instructions, watch the videos on YouTube, call and email KME if you have further questions....you WILL get a wickedly sharp blade.

Here with one of my finest Doug Campbell knives...

The results...time and time again....

If you are sharpening challenged or even if you are a sharpening pro, give the guys at KME a call and take your knives to a new level of sharp. Best money you'll spend on your knives.

I'm also looking forward to the new projects on the horizon at KME...but you'll have to wait to hear about those from Ron.    ;)

Now don't start teasing us Joe..... We got to meet the guys at the KME booth at Compton, great fellers and they were busy all four days. I think it is a great tool and I will be an owner soon of a KME knife sharpener. I will also add my own custom holder for a round file and ceramic stone to sharpen my Simmons Treesharks. Next time I see Chase tell him I will shave his chin whiskers off while he sleeps, HAHA !!! Connor make wake up with a Mohawk !!! Sure do miss ya'll, gotta get to Ranger, GA again.

Ron Swartz wrote a great article for the sharpening challenged in the 2010 Summer TradArchers' World magazine. He will have follow-up stories in the next few issues, too. Tom

I've got the knife and broadhead sharpeners. Just a super product.
I've been known to sharpen the razor blades and utility knife blades in my shop and this makes that project a snap... yes, razor blades can be sharpened.

You guys... Thank you very much.  :o

Joe, I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to meet you at the blade show. Certainly one of the highlights of the event for me. You sure didn't need to do this but, I'm greatful and happy to hear that the sharpener is working well for you. It's always nice to hear people tell us that the sharpeners work well but, when the comments come from veteran sharpening pros like Charlie or you... well that means so much more to us. Thank you very much! and thanks again to everyone for the kind words,

Ron

Dang Charlie, that's almost as bad as my dad cleaning and hanging his dental floss up to dry for a second usage.

Ron is top shelf and his products are the same. I also have both and would never be without one again.

Ron, accolades richly deserved...for you, Dan and the KME products in general. Ya'll keep up the great work (meaning, we are all impatiently waiting on the next achievment  ;)  )

OMG...if you guys only knew...that "  :o  " Ron posted is in fact, Total Reality!!!

He's so shy and retiring...NOT! But he does blush easily if you flatter him too much.

I've spent literally thousands of dollars on sharpening "stuff" over the years and Ron's two units are all I'll ever need for my sharpening.  There is so much more room now in my "sharpening drawer".  I was able to get rid of all the stuff that I just won't need anymore.

Thanks Ron!  todd

Hear hear.   I have the KME sharpener and I still learned a lot from this article.

And I totally agree on the comments above.  The one comment that is hardest to believe but is all true is "if you have a question ask".  Ron is also a natural and patient teacher!

Ron is a teacher for sure.  He has taught me not only a bunch about sharpening but a lot about life in general.  Good man with a great product.  He's so busy we need 3 of him so we can get all his ideas into production.  Thanks guys.  Your support keeps us going.
