What is your Holy Grail longbow or recurve? Show us a photo.
It has everything you like in a bow;
You love to shoot it.
You love its beauty.
The first shot hits where you look.
I will start off with mine;
Bob Morrision "Dakota" one piece/ 45#@28 and 62" length. (http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z318/arrow39/20100620001.jpg)

My Big Jim Buffalo bow, one piece, 60", 51# @ 28" It's smooth, fast, quiet, and shoots where I look. Oh and it's the most beautiful bow I've ever seen.

Sorry, you asked for this...and I am shocked I get to say it first, but I am still on the search for it....
I've tried A LOT of different bows before finding the Buffalo bow. 2nd place goes to Whisperstik Voodoostik. I love mine but wish it were a little heavier draw.
For now, until something better comes along, it would be my Morrison. Morrison is the only bow I ever really regret getting rid of and now that I have this one, it stays!

Morrison Shawnee, A-riser... medium grip with 1/2 pinecones, masur birch riser with bocote flare, E-limbs... Carbon foam limbs with copperheads.
Have a couple of others with the same riser/limb combo that shoot as good but me and this one have history...

I like my Toelke Whip. I lost it once but was very, very lucky and got it back again. 62" 56@27 3/4 I don't draw as short as I once did. Quiet, pretty quick and dead in the hand. Not to mention Dan is a heck of a guy.
Chris Kiefner
I used to be in search of the Holy Grail bow, and it involved buying several bows a year. Now my Holy Grail is the next one I build, because it'll be better and/or more interesting than the last one, though certainly not as good as I could buy. Got a bunch of old Holy Grails hanging on the wall... 2 Widows, Berry, Pronghorn and five Hills... gotta remember to dust those off this week...
Gotta be my Mohawks, particularly this one

Eric.
A older Jack Harrison El Lobo, 62", 60# @ 28", tonkin bamboo and double carbon. Crocodile wrap, diamondback skins and buffalo tips. I wouldn't sell it for any amount of money.

I actually love the bows I have now but have to say they aren't my "Holy Grail" of bows, it just isn't possible because there are too many others out there that I've never even held in my hand much less shot.
There it is!!.....

Didn't get it yet...but it would have to be an Ed Holcomb 60", 50# "Firedrake" bow. Certainly the bost beautiful bow I know of....riser of cocobolo, bacote'maple and purpleheart accents. Limbs of zebrawood and brownglass. black micarta and bacote limbtips....all finished in Eds perfect finish! Cant wait...will send pics when i get it!Oh' this is merely a longer version of his "Drake" 54" "hunter flight" bow....awesome stuff for those who like fancy bows..
I am currently very pleased with my Timberhawk recurve that I picked up used here on tradgang. I had one a few years back and shot it well, but the continued pursuit of the "holy grail" of bows found me trading it off and then trying to buy it back. Grip on this bow just melts into my hand!
When times get better for me financially, I would like to buy another set of limbs for it. Only decent photo I have of her-
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b99/mule157/TIMBERHAWK_0011.jpg)
My Mohawk Classic, it has great cast, quiet, and nice curves.

If there was such a bow, we would only have one bowyer, and one style...
The bows I have and the bows I want... :jumper:
The more bows I try, the more I realize there in no Holy Grail for me, just good days and bad days of shooting. But it is fun trying out new bows and finding the ones that "agree" with me.
I feel the same way as Dick on page 1. Each one I build gets better and as soon as I'm done with one I'm thinking about the next. I hope I never find the Holy Grail because then I'd have to take up golf or something.
Nothing beats a Griffin for me.
I second buckster, most bow are better of what i am so it is just the time you spend with a single bow that makes it becomes the favourite.
I love too many different bows, all good for me.
Gil, that Harrison is a beauty, I hope you bring it to Rays.

MOHAWKS! :archer2: :dunno:
The MOAB is my favroite bow smooth and fast. (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/039.jpg) (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/046.jpg)Just cant resist!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Buckster, I couldn't have said it any better.
Actually a holy grail bow is one you don't own and want to own and are on a mission to obtain it. What I see are favorite bows, not holy grails.
Another vote for the MOAB.
longbowben, That buck is just fantastic! What a brute!!!!
As far as the original question, I searched and searched, thinking I would find the holy grail of bows after several years. Spent a bunch of money on bows, spent a bunch of money on shipping, and here today I shoot what some would call a "production bow". It was fun, it was exciting, but in the end, I realized I wasted alot of money. Seemed like I tried to make things more complicated than they were. Best of luck to you in finding the right bow.
I don't know if "Holy Grail" is appropriate. But I fell in love with her first time I saw a pic of her. I was thrilled that after I got it, it fit me like a glove, and hits where I look at, better than any other bow I've shot. Here's a pic.... I can't imagine ever gettin' rid of her....
I have a Ron fox t/d longbow that is my favourite, but the holy Grail for me is a Ron fox twisted limb bow or selfbow, I am told there were only about 4 made it would finish my collection
My 58" Silvertip 1 piece curve. Simply an astounding bow. Smooth, very quick and silent!

My Bear A mag T/D and my Bear A T/D with differnt limb combos.
Morrison Shawnee, "A" riser,1/2 or full pinecones, 58 or 60" carbon foam longbow linbs with copperheads.
Tough to pick anything other than my Quinn Stallion.

Widow PMA V it's been my go to bow for a number of years now. I've try'ed other's butt i alway's feel like im cheating on my wife.62" 52#
Guys it took me a long while and a pile of bows to come to my holy grail. At least for recurves that is . Mr Jack Kempf makes a beauty called the Kwyk-Styk,sure floats my boat... Enjoy the pics (http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/momo-t_photos/Kwyk-Styk069.jpg) (http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/momo-t_photos/Kwyk-Styk048.jpg) (//%5D%20%20%20%5Bimg%5Dhttp://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/momo-t_photos/Kwyk-Styk064.jpg) (http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/momo-t_photos/Kwyk-Styk054.jpg) (http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc355/momo-t_photos/Kwyk-Styk035.jpg)
Pronghorn Ferret so far it likes me the best.
I am always facinated by this topic. One great attribute which contributes to its mystery is that it always remains just out of reach. Today it is even questioned what the biblical holy grail really is. Now what are they actually looking for?
The quest for the perfect bow is enjoyable, intriguing and may be the most rewarding part of the journey. Let the search continue.
Im digging my 1970 Bear hunter takedown.
the holy grail for me will be the selfbow i make after having taken a primitive deer with it.
the border black douglas looks good!!
Clint I'm with you..it "will" be my selfbow ...
my paddocks are lined with osage trees ... I'll save you a stave or two and we'll get a' building. I'd love to make a really good selfbow ...that then would by my ultimate "holy grail" bow ...

 Reddogge hit the nail on the head.......
Mine just happens to be a really nice original 1960 Bear Kodiak somewhere between 50# and 55#. I own a 60, but it's lighter. She's out there somewhere.....I just have to find her (and an owner that's willing to part with her at a reasonable price).
 :archer2:
I don't know if I can ever do better than this one, I've had it for three years now and no matter what I shoot or buy I come back to her, she just "feels right" all of the time........Morrison Shawnee with bamboo recurve limbs, eastern diamondback skins, half pinecone grip, she is fast and quiet.......

So far its my 62in PSA X, i have not shot another bow that performs as good as this one for me.
My Holy Grail would be a Dean Torges Firestick, mid fifties at 28", black and red stained bamboo, which I believe is what he was shooting in Masters of the Barebow. I don't think he takes orders for bows anymore so if the grail is meant to be unobtainable, well... that would make it a good choice. That is the most beautiful bow I've ever seen.

Blacktail "Snakebit" footed with wenge and lacewood limb veneers.
Blacktail VL Elite love the highly figured myrtlewood.
These bows are beautiful to me. But more importantly they are great shooters! They have it all to me.
currently the ony I own, and likely replaced by the next one I shoot.... :saywhat:
The only bow I ever shot that required no break-in is my Thunderhorn Coup Stick longbow. I can pick it up after months of shooting something else and put the first arrow right where I'm looking.
My new Brackenbury Quest and I are bonding nicely. I shoot it better than anything I ever touched, after a few warm ups.
I'm still on the quest for my "Holy Grail" bow, but I think I know where to find it now.
I either have to find the "Lost Creek" or the "Black Creek" where I am supposed to consult the Banshee.
Seriously...I think either Chad's Lost Creek longbow or The Black Creek Banshee will encompass everything I want in a bow. I will have to shoot both to find out for sure.
Who knows? The quest could still hold more adventures even after shooting those bows!
As a collector any Bear Type 1 TD A or B.
For a longbow I have really been happy with the Fox Royal Crown. It is very easy to become accurate with it. It does have a recurve grip which I like. It is smooth to draw and through the shot.

I love the 50's style recurve. This was my first. I love shooting it and am very happy (and surprised!) that it came like it did. These are my "keepers"....so far! :biglaugh:
62" 52@28 Schafer Silvertip is what I have. The "Grail" would be one with the same specs, but fancier woods. It'll probably be my retirement present if I make it there.
I think mine is my Holcomb 59 repro.
My 1968 Damon Howatt Monterey. Brazilian rosewood riser, 62" and 49# @ 28". The finest shooting bow I've ever owned bar none, and boy have I owned some bows. I did re-finish this baby last fall and put some micarta tips on.

This year it will be my myrtle on myrtle Robertson longbow. It shoots too nice and is just too pretty to leave home.

I like and enjoy shooting every bow I own but when I see all of yours on here it makes me want more. My wife thinks I'm nuts because I keep buying bows(she just doesn't get it).

ive had and shot a few bows over the yrs but i dont think there is a "holy grail " there are many bows id like to have because of their beauty but i guess if there was a bow of bows it would feel perfect in my hand everytime, without thought. and shoot where i look effortlessly. dead in hand and to the ears.with extreem fortitude.
my goal is to start the adventure of becoming a boyer and that is my goal to create my perfect bow. :campfire:
Got two of them Morrison Shawnee's can not decide which is the best. :dunno: :dunno:
My Zipper, I love this bow!!!!! 51 @ 28, smooth, quiet, fast, and just plain good looking.
Pretty fond of a Pronghorn Ferret shoots well for me, but the bow also has the MOJO. I do not know how to explain it but take this bow hunting and good things start happening.
Kind of a plain looking bow as well, other than the Gator grip.
 That would be my 60" 58@28 Kwyk Styk by Jack Kempf.
Of Course my Schafer's and Morrison's are also very "High" on my list....Especially my new mini 13 ILF with the "C" L/B limbs :notworthy:
Gene
New guy here from NW Arkansas, those are all fantastic bows. Dont know if it will be my "Holy Grail" bow, but I ordered my first custom bow last month from Scott at TimberHawk Bows. A Talon Primier Talon 62" 55 - 60# at 28", Cocobolo and Bubinga riser with Red Elm limbs. Thinking it will be  . Will post up when it gets here...in Feb. :(
My black bear WARF owned most the others will never part with this one simply the best bow I have had my hands on not very pretty, but dang it shoots nice!!!
Until I find a bow that shoots better , it will be my EagleWing Talon or EagleWing D and R Longbow. So many bows, So little time. God Bless you all , Steve
I'm going to say my black widow longbow.
62" 55# it is quiet, fast, light and pointable. I have 21century that I've retired but would not tread or sell it. It is a great shooting bow and has been on many hunts and kills....
Joe
The quest is what makes this subject so enjoyable.
My holy grail tells me that I have met all your requirements and yet you still can't shoot me.
I really like to the bow to be candid and spell it out to me.

My favorite bow at this time is my Predator Classic made by Hunter's Niche...
If I had to choose just one, it would be my Snakebit TD...

I am just a Hill Bow kind of guy. I don't know it is actually my HOLY GRAIL or not, but my first Wesley Special is, well... very special to me.
This one's my baby: 58" Kanati, 46# @ 28". Smooth as butter, dead silent, and deadly accurate.
