I'm wanting a riser made of macassar ebony...but what would look good for the limb veneers? What do you think? How about bocote?
I love bocote and have a couple of bows that are mostly bocote, but I have never seen the ebony other than in pictures posted here. However, I believe that would make a great bow especially if you like it.
Tulipwood if available! Bocote uhhhhgh, so-so. The right zebrawood would be good too.
There are many beautiful woods to choose,a nice tiger mrtyle would look great in my opinion.I also like the look of a yew veneer, especially if it has some knots in it.
I should be getting a Shrew Classic Hunter in a couple of weeks with macassar ebony riser and curly koa limb veneers. I am hopeful that it will be a real nice combination. I will post pictures after I get it.
Saw a Morrison recurve with Macassar ebony riser, osage accent stripe, and limb veneers that was pretty awesome looking, but bocote is right behind cocobolo on my list of favorites when it comes to bows.
Let's see. Yew would be cool, you can't miss with good CoCo, but if you wanted to go out on a limb how about English Walnut (Black?) or Russian Olive??? Heaps of great choices.

I have a Madagascar riser with Zebrawood veneers. It looks good. My bowyer didn't have a source on tigerstripe myrtle which was my first choice. Several veneers would look good. I think stained bamboo with the nodes look good on some bows such as longbows.
Tiger myrtle,Norm has some beautyful one,I don't think he used it all on my Snakebit.LOL
Quilted or waterfall bubinga would look nice!
I have a macassar and yew bow on order. Demoed a bow with macassar and curly maple that looked good (maple was on the gold side instead of white). I can post some pics if you'd like...Mike

I have a Firefly with a dark riser (zircote) and Bocote veneers and love the combo. I'd go with Bocote.
Thanks for the input. Too many choices. I wish there was a computer program, like they have for cars and houses, that you could input the types of wood and it would show you what the bow would look like.......?
Bacote rocks!!!!!!!!
Jackdaw, I agree with you. I thought the black strikes in the bacote would go well with the ebony.
Here is a picture of some nice bacote.

My favourite combo is Macassar and exhibition Mrtyle. Alot of myrtle is very plain, so you have to make sure its the "good" stuff.
go with osage or something lighter....I think a contrast from the darker macassar ebony will be a real looker!
Good luck and post picks!

I would think that either Bocoote, Tiger Myrtle or Olive Ash would complement Macassar Ebony riser.
To me the tones are bit off between M.E. and bocote, similar but off.
i think japanese tamo ash would look awsome with it
You may be right Steve. I have seen some Macassar ebony that has greyish streaks and others that have the brownish streaks. The brown would work...not the grey.
Eucalyptus burl
I would say a highly figured myrtle...but then again I'm a sucker for a really nice myrtle.
