Post by: marsniper27 on June 18, 2010, 09:28:00 AM
I am going to try to make my first take down recurve I want to use purple heart and another dark wood that would go good with it. the limbs are going to be gray action wood with a purple heart wedge.

Any help asap is appreciated.

Just my opinion but I think Bacote might make a good combo for you. Good luck and probably better people to ask than me.

i really like Cocobolo but it isn't the cheapest wood and i was trying to keep cost down on this first attempt in case i make an error. Bocote is nice too but still not that cheap. and i wanted something with a more solid dark colour.

I have one in Zebrawood with Purpleheart accent and I like it alot...may not be dark enough for you though. Here's a crappy picture of it:

Walnut won't break the bank and should glue up well. Also, wenge is a good choice as well if you're looking for dark woods although it does need to be sealed real good to get a smooth finish.
