I am going to try to make my first take down recurve I want to use purple heart and another dark wood that would go good with it. the limbs are going to be gray action wood with a purple heart wedge.
Any help asap is appreciated.
Just my opinion but I think Bacote might make a good combo for you. Good luck and probably better people to ask than me.
has any one worked with Quina it is a nice looking dark wood.

Sorry want to order the wood asap
Bacote and Cocobola are both nice.
i really like Cocobolo but it isn't the cheapest wood and i was trying to keep cost down on this first attempt in case i make an error. Bocote is nice too but still not that cheap. and i wanted something with a more solid dark colour.
Could try walnut or wenge...

This is what my new Lost Creek is. Coco riser with Bocote limbs.
How about gray actionwood to go with the limbs?
i was thinking of that and seen a picture of one like that i really don't know what im going to get i might have to order a couple different things and decide when i have it in front of me to see what looks best. now to find the extra money....
Ebony wood gets my vote.
walnut and purple heart get my vote.
Dito on the Walnut.
I have one in Zebrawood with Purpleheart accent and I like it alot...may not be dark enough for you though. Here's a crappy picture of it:

That's what I was thinking.
Walnut won't break the bank and should glue up well. Also, wenge is a good choice as well if you're looking for dark woods although it does need to be sealed real good to get a smooth finish.
2knives that is a beautiful bow but i am looking for something a little darker on this one.
I am really leaning towards black walnut now.
Thanks for everyones help i will be sure to post pics when i start making the bow.
Cocobolo without a doubt!!!!!
