Title: Hilton Head Bowfishing or Hog Hunting?
Post by: e alexander on June 17, 2010, 03:31:00 PM
I'll be heading to Hilton Head, SC in a couple of weeks. Was wondering if anyone knew of any bowfishing opportunities around there. Stingray would be nice. Hog hunting would also be an idea, but I'm not to much for hunting in the middle of summer.

Any information would be appreciated.

You should be just about due east of Ray  Hammond's. Hot yes, but great hunting, so I have heard.

I have family there and will be there over the July 4 weekend.  Will you be taking a boat?  Do you want a public or paid private hog hunt.  How far are you willing to travel etc?  Need more specifics.

Technically it's southeast.... And unless Julian knows something that I am unaware of, there is no public land hog hunting in S.C. then. There may be in Ga.

As far as bowfishing... If you have a boat there are lots of opportunities available on the Island. I can put you in touch with a good captain if you aren't bringing a boat. PM me if you want some more specifics.   Michael

I will also be there the week of the 4th, but I will not have a boat. Was really just looking for some public place to do something with a bow. Wouldn't mind driving a hour or so (one way).  Thinking more of bowfishing than hunting hogs, that is unless I was missing out on something.

I checked into Fort Stewart, and it looks promising.  Any Idea what a "out of state hunter" would need.  I assume a GA lisense and a Fort Stewart permit?  I'll try to give them a call, but if you know, please post or pm me. Thanks,

fort stewart's annual permit is I believe still 40 dollars.

You can find a nonresident general hunting license for GA there's an annual for 100.00 I couldn't find a 3 or 5 day price.

2010 changes

Wonder how the gator season would affect this? Hope I get drawn this year. Have to look at the regs for hunting gator with a bow?

I was down there last weekend, and it was HOT! And it was only mid-June. I don't know how people stay down there. They must be TUFF!....  :notworthy:

Looks like you can hunt with a bow for gators.

Eddie,

I'm working on an idea.  Give me a few days to do some more research and I'll report back.

Sounds good, just keep in mind we're a couple of "working class country boys" trying to sneek in a little "bow" time during a family vacation.

It may be too late to fill you in on this but Hilton Head isn't the place where "working class country boys" vacation.  I've got family there so it's a "gypsy in the palace" deal for me.

Kiddin aside....if this plan comes together, it should be pretty simple and cheap.

I hear what you're saying, I've promised my wife I'll be on my "best behavior" for the week.
