Settling in for this one...

Kool, Is that the Italy side of the Mountain
Now that is one beautiful picture, thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful animal!
WOW!
Alpine ibex, beautiful!
This is the South, italian side, home of perennial glaciers, climbers, hard core ultra marathon runners skiers and too many hunters. Here is home of many wild games:with the chamois as the royal prey, then roe deer, red staq, mouflon and wild mountain boar that can climb this mountain like a sheep. The ibex is majestic and the perfect game to hunt with a bow,but it is very difficult to get a licence, pretty expensive too.
Way Kool.. More Pix Please

Great looking animal and nice photos.

Not many people realize that Italy is not only sea and pizza.I live closer to paris than Naples,Mounchen than Rome,London than Palermo.
There are seasons to hunt Ibex as well as Oryx in New Mexico. Any other states with Ibex & Oryx populations? I didn't draw into either hunt this year.
By the way, these pics remind me of where I was stationed in Italy - nothern Italian Alps, beautiful country & people (oh, & the BEAUTIFUL women!!)

How far do you think they are?
Great looking animals, thanks for the pics.
Oh and in that last pic the closest one looks to be about 10 yards away.
I don't know how far they are but those horns look to be 1/3 of their weight. Nice pictures thanks
daniel, your experience with those Hawayan critters is been useful, you are right, but these are much bigger.
bettya they are 375 yards away??? LOL just shooting some bull, what do I win if I got lucky . . .see guys that is yet another cool thing about this site, getting to see some awesome critters from a land far far away:) :campfire:
Ha ha, yep it looks like you could fit three or four hawaiin goats in one of those Ibex, they're magnificent.
They were all Billies of about the same size, some smaller ones were at a lower elevation.Never seen nannies that day.More will come tomorrow.
STUNNING, absolutely STUNNING!
Bill
How do you pronounce "Stambecchi" in English?
Thanx
BTW, cool photos, thanx for sharing.
Cacciatore,
If you wanted to hunt those Ibex what is the process you as a resident would have to go through to get a license? Does Italy require a proficiency test. Is there some kind of lottery draw, or do you just need a lot of money. What is the approximate cost?
Thanks, Burnsie
Wow. That is some beautiful country there! I bet the food is killer too.. I'd love to check that out one day.
The Stambecchi were amazing and yes...THEY ARE BIG! The country was some of the most rugged, beautiful country I've ever laid eyes on. Yes Pete, the food was incredible. To have Felix as your host is to want for nothing. Here are a couple of extra Ibex pics for you all to salivate over.

Those mountains in the background are where we found the Ibex. (Felix is the good looking guy on the left).
I'm starting my exercise program now, so I'm in shape when I return to Bella Italia to hunt chamois and wild boar in that challenging terrain.
I sure wish I could add Ibex to that list. At least I got to shoot them with the camera. Thanks Felix, for that tremendous opportunity and for making my wife Simonne's and my 25th anniversary trip absolutely unforgettable.
Amazing pictures! Thanks for sharing!
love it!!
OMG!!!! I think I have a new dream hunt!
Wow! Simply magnificent!
Yes Steve, the 2 bowhunters had some shoots, for now just with their cameras.
The reason i posted all these pics is the friendship and the bond that was created between 2 bowhunters living so far but we so close interest and feelings.I am been honoured to have Steve and Simonne in my home, unfortunatly just for few days on they vacation in Italy. We met on TG and then at the CSTAS(Colorado Traditional Archers Society) annual in Denver. So when arrived in Italy, after some days in Rome I was ready to offer them a view of my side of the country and for sure to introduce to this fine sportsman some of the critters that roam our woodlots. We had really few days at our disposition, but we did a lot of things. We are also been able to try boar hunting with our bows, but that time the boars that were around didn't cooperated.Steve, the big boar showed up as we left, then he vanished again. We became instantly long time friends and since the first minute they left my wife and he missed them.
Steve being a Colorado high country hunter was in heaven thinking to bowhunt these steepy slopes.

cant wait to meet you felix.sept is coming fast buddy.the eagle caps are waiting for us.
I can't wait Larry, then you have to return the visit.
well..me and airplanes dont get along to good felix.been on a plane long distance once going from alaska back home in 1986 after working on a fishing boat.guess i could take some pills eh.lol..
I can tell you a thing:it is a loooong flight,damn.
i bet.its a long way from here to italy.
But it worths, from L.A. there is a daily direct flight.
ibex are a dream animal of mine. i'd love to hunt them in mongolia or kyrgzstan along with argali and marco polo sheep.
I don't care who you are or where you're from.... this is an amazing human interest story that someone/anyone would love to read even if they'd never held a bow in they're hand before!
But we brothers and sisters of the bow know precisely the "how" and the "why" of it!
Great story and wonderful pictures with an even greater bond between (at the very least) two real live humans beings, that were continents apart that now share something that will last all of them a lifetime.
Thank you for sharing that with us!!!!
God bless,Mudd
PS: How very Cool is this thread? Way!... I'd say!!! like over the top cool!!!
Happy Anniversary to Colotrad and his bride of 23 years.. only 3 more and you'll have caught up to me and mine...lol
Mudd, this is the spirit of my membership here and in the PBS. I belive in the fraternal aspect of these organizations.
Clinton, the Marco Polo and Argali run around 50,000 US $$$$$ there with good chances to come back with empty hands.Maybe here is easier and much less.
Wow! That is one great backyard. May your life be a peacefull as those pics.
Felix!! What a beautiful place to have access to. Great pictures and camera stalks!!
Thank you for the show :)
Loved it. What a magnificent animal. You guys are alright too.
Next time we will have pics of chamois and boar taken with our trad bows,or maybe Colorado elk and pronghorn!!
Both,my friend we deserve both. Now you have a small idea of our hospitality,I really hope to enjoy more both of you.
Great pics and thread! Seems like you can walk right up to them. Are they hard to hunt...or are these ones just used to people and getting their pic taken?
I'm so glad Felix posted these pictures.Felix showed them to me a couple weeks ago when we met in Saskatoon. The beauty of these animals and the scenery is second to none.PS-Felix the Cheese is gone!Enjoyed by my friends and family,Thanks again my friend.Steve
love reading your threads- always have great pics.
Absolutely beautiful country, thanks for sharing.
Not trying to steal the "thunder" of Felix's pix.
They are beautiful!
I travelled to the swiss alps with my wife a few years back, and I stalked up on these.
These rams were right on the edge of a huge dropoff/ledge. I would guess apx. 1000'
Thought I would share my pix of this beautiful animal.

nice pics everybody. Looks like a dream hunt for sure.
Chris, welcome thanks for sharing, but maybe you have to resize the pics.
Keith, the Ibex are not really afraid of the people also because they aren't really hunted hard because the restricted hunting permits.
Are the Ibex Italy's national animnal?
Yes Keith, they are native here. When we took those pics,in May,they where still low in elevation but then they follow the snow line finishing very high above the timberline. They are incredible climbers more than the agile chamois. In the full winter they remain high in the steepy rocks where the snow can't stick on,and come down just in the spring for the first sprouts.
Thank you both for sharing such a wonderful adventure! What awesome creatures and a recurve would indeed be a noble way to pursue them.
Felix, you are the best! What a friend we all have in Italy!!!!!
John, thanks. The Monte Rosa as some of the best ski free rides of europe and lots of lifts and track that connnect them to the Mattlehorn(Cervino for us)with some 100 Miles to ski with out taking off you skies. You'll love it.
cacciatore- yeah i know they are expensive and there is a very small chance of getting to 20 yards of them in their barren mountain homes but a man has to dream......
if i ever bought a lotto ticket i might win it. LOL
