I NEED HELP TWISTING MY STRINGS. GOT A LOT OF STUFF OFF THE INTERNET, BUT I'M VISUAL AND I NEED TO SEE IT DONE. SOME OF THE DVD'S DON'T GET VERY HIGH RATINGS. CAN ANYONE VOUCH FOR ONE THAT WOULD HELP ME GET IT RIGHT?
THANKS!
A good DVD is "Doin the Twist" DVD,alot of info and good instruction. You can buy it directly from recurves.com or 3Rivers or Kustom King.
Shaun Webb had a very "understandable" how-to article on making flemish twist strings in the Summer 2010 TradArchers' World magazine.
+1 on Doin the Twist. It's an excellent resource.

freeze before you do anything, check out youtube!!! One of my videos might help . . . www.youtube.com/user/Guitararcher (http://www.youtube.com/user/Guitararcher) there are different ways to do things but that is just the way that has worked for me. There are also alot of other videos, of lesser production quality with basically the same info!
  Doing the twist
Watch it a couple of times and take some notes.
It's funny--the last time I looked on the 3-Rivers site, "Doin' the Twist" had an awful rating, but I don't recall ever hearing anything bad in person. We've gotten hints on how some of the angles could have been better, etc. but we've always gotten rave reviews on the info. contained in it. They sell a lot of them, and continue to do so. Go figure.
It's almost two solid hours of instruction. We show you how to build two bundle strings, three bundle strings, padded loops, endless strings, how to install silencers, how to tie a timber hitch, how to make a string board, how to make a string stretcher, and an easy endless jig. I really don't think any other DVD comes close to having this much information on making a string--and if all goes well, there will be a DTT II in the not too distant future.

I stand corrected--that's what I get for not looking before I posted. The review on 3 Rivers has gotten WAY better--glad to see it!
Doing the Twist is what got me going on making my own...you should buy it!
I'm getting it today.
Like Chad said, some of the angles could be improved in "Doin the twist", but if you watch the movement of the hands it is very easy to understand what to do and DO IT. One of the best instructional materials available on making flemish twist strings.
I've been twisting strings for around 35 years now and always recommend Chads DVD to anyone interested in learning the art.
