I'm shooting a Bob Lee recurve 44@28". My draw is only 26 inches. I'm trying to figure out what bare shafts to order and what grain field tips to start with. My set-up will be for hunting. I've looked at the Dynamic spine calculator but looking to see what works for some of you guys. Any help would be appreciated.
Shawns, first, you might want to move this to the pow wow forum for more input. For myself, I have a 28" draw and use 90's at 29" for bows 47-51#'s. Even at 47#'s I can tell the arrows are a little stiff. I would recommend that you use 75's and work on your front end weight untill you get good results.
I'd say the 75s will be best
Shawn. Doc and Scout are dead on. The 75s the correct arrow spine ,needs to be bare shafted and cut to the right dynamic spine.
Good Luck
So, you are pulling about 38 pounds. I have a 26.5" draw and shoot 90s cut to 28 out of a 46 pound (at my draw) bow. They spine around 60# AMO, very close to a Gold Tip 3555.
You may be able to use them but leaving them long would bog you down with more weight than you need, especially if you needed heavy points and/or inserts.
I would suggest the next size down, or try Gold Tip 1535s. All the GT Traditional series take the same insert size, and you will likely be able to cut these to your length (27" or so) and get good flight.
Or try an 1816 aluminum with a heavy point.
Killdeer
thanks for all the help
did some more measuring and gained access to a scale. My draw is 27 inches not 26 and the scale shows pulling right at 40# at 27.
buy some ce predator 20/40's from tim at braveheart..... great little arrow for the price...you'd probably be able to shoot it 29" with 175 grains up front if your pulling 40#s....the ce 20/40 is a .600 spine similar to the ce heritage 75.
