Title: TO THE TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY
Post by: waiting4fall on June 05, 2010, 01:12:00 AM
Besides my children, family, & very select close friends, there is nothing I love more in this world than traditional archery. I'm a very passionate, motivated, focused, determined, caring & at times an admittedly IMPULSIVE individual.

What started out, nearly 2 years ago, as an innocent email to Rick Welch has evolved into a SELF IMPOSED mission to help Rick Welch help others, & to give those who want to know more about Rick all possible avenues to obtain the information they are looking for.

I think it's safe to say that you know more about Rick Welch now, than 2 years ago. However, in the process, despite my genuinely sincere intentions I have offended people. I have, at times, been admittedly over zealous in my excitement to share what Rick has to offer & overly defensive of Rick.

I publicly, from the absolute bottom of my heart, am extending a genuine apology to EVERY SINGLE person that I may have offended during this process. I ask only two things of the people that I may have offended. one- your forgiveness. two- take a moment to read the story of how all of this came to be. This will give you the "big picture" of how this all came to be, & hopefully allow you to see that my love for our lifestyle is genuine, & that I truly in my heart of hearts do want to see us ALL shooting better than we ever have in our lives!

I also want to go on public record & say that indeed Rick Welch's method is not the only method available. One must do the research to decide which method he/she feels will best facilitate maximizing consistent accuracy. I just want you to know that I know that, & I accept that. All the best.- Dave Mullins

Hey Dave... Don't beat yourself up. If you are guilty of anything, it's being human. We all have our mentors in traditional archery. As time goes by and we get better at this our eyes open to what many of the "pros" were tryin' to teach us.

Learning a little from each of them would benefit us all. That being said... Rick Welch Can Shoot! His "style" may not be for everyone, but it is his.

Hey Dave... You can't please everyone. But like I have said in my emails to you before, there are a lot of us that appreciate all the time that you  have put into showing us Rick's stile of shooting.
I have never met you in person or even talked to you on the phone, but anyone can see how much you enjoy shooting the bow by watching any of your videos that you have on you tube. It's all about family and good friends and enjoying time together. Don't let the rest get to you.
I feel that I am getting more comfortable with my double anchor that I am using and might even be ready to try to become a member of the Quarter club soon. Still can't wait to go down to Rick's school for so fine tuning. The job situation is a lot better than it was last year ,so hopefully I can do it soon.

I always thought you were just like me, a really excited person who loves to shoot bows and cant get enough of it.

I took lessons from Rod Jenkins last year when i first started shooting trad and im sure a lot of people got tired of me talking about my experience.

To me you are doing nothing but keeping the tradition alive and to me thats a good thing.

I would love to spend a few days with Rick Welch.

If people are upset with you for the things you are doing they need to get a life.

Dont change your life for other people, please.

You have never offended me, I like to see people who are passionate over something, if I agree or not. I personally do not care what style of aiming others use as long as they enjoy this great sport. Keep em flying true.

Dave I for one thank you.  It is good to see different styles and what works for some and also to incorporate different ideas from the pros of our sport.

Wow, I wouldn't worry too much about it. When I first started shooting a longbow and found this site I said a TON of things that bothered people. Mostly ignorance + enthusiasm on my part!

I haven't seen much from you that would even come close to some of the knuckle headed statements I have made in the past. Let it go brother - I need to get my enthusiasm back, don't let go of yours!

The majority of what I said was from being new to archery and not understanding the rich tradition that accompanies the "stick and string". I hope that the misinformed comments on my part are long forgotten.

I also hope you find people are open to your evolution in archery. Hunters/archers are always growing and changing. Archery has a HUGE learning curve!

Good Luck!

I don't have a clue as to what you're talking about as I've never read anything about you in any sort of negative way but I do admire your character and the fact that even if you did make a mistake(no evidence to show you did) you are man enough to step up and speak out, taking care of those who's feeling you think you might have stepped on.

That's a trait we can all learn something about. I need to use it more here in my own home than anywhere else I think.

Good on you brother!

God bless,Mudd

I think the great majority of people who have had lessons from Rick have improved their archery way more than they ever expected to, and want to share their experience with others.  I feel the same way, as you know, and fully understand where you're coming from.  Don't ever blame yourself for promoting something you believe in, and don't ever stop doing it, whether it's Rick's archery or something entirely different that you may encounter in the future.

Dave,

You are effusive in your enthusiasm, but that is a good thing. I appreciate your contributions, and having been around you, I know your heart is in the right place.

Just wish I lived closer.  We could shoot together and I just may pick up a thing or two.  No worries my brother of the bow.

Apologize to no one!

Rick W. has made popular, once again, the 3 finger under, high / solid anchor point that made Cliff Necessary a much acclaimed bare bow champion in the mid 1960's. Not a new shooting style, but long forgotten and very accurate.

If people are offended by your enthusiasm, ignore them.
