hey yall great forum here i just joined and cant wait to get into tradional archery forgive my typing aint use to these computers yet. ive got a new blackwidow pchx on the way and to get the right arrows and tip weight. my draw length is 26 inches and will be drawing 41 to 42 pounds of draw weight. i hunt deer and turkey so thats my priority. ive been looking mighty hard at the axis and beman mfx arrows. anybody with experiance with these? also what spine would you suggest and kind of weight should i be looking for? i will ad a wrap and 5 to 5 and half inch feathers with the arrows around 28inches or so.ill welcome all advice. thanks a plenty :pray:
Welcome to the Gang, Scott! You will find lots of help and knowlegde here. I don't know carbons from corn, but Widows are known for needing plenty of spine. For a wood arrow and 125 gr point, I'd start with a 60-64 lb spine.
Any chance you will make it to the Colverdale or Compton shoots?
well im waiting on bow to arrive so i can get started setting it up with good arrows. i dont know where those towns are at. is it a 3d shoot or something/
What's the centershot on the bow? I have had a hard time with spine on MFXs on centercut and near center cut bows. Found I needed far more spine than I expected. Eventually gave up and went with standard 5/16 shafts and they fly much better for me especially with heavy points I like to use.
One more thing...I strongly recommend the broadhead rings or some sort of ring to protect the raw carbon end with the HIT insert.
I haven't tried the Beman or Axis shafts, but they certainly are good arrows. Carbons spine out different than wood. I use Gold Tips, and with those I would think the 35/55's would be just the ticket. I'm sure the Beman and Axis have something comparable in spine.

Compton and Cloverdale are two very large traditional gatherings. Cloverdale is in Indiana, and Compton in Michigan. More bows and vendors than you can imagine, and loads of fun. Well worth the trip if you have a chance.

Cloverdale, officially titled the "Traditional Archery Nationals", might not be too far for you, depending on where you are in KY. The shoot is just north of I70, about midway between Terre Haute and Indy. Well worth the trip. It's a little over 3 hours for me and I gonna be there. Rick
I had someone ask me what I meant when I said carbon shafts spine out different than wood, and he correctly pointed out that deflection is deflection. Of course he is right.
That was a poor choice of words on my part. What I should have said is that carbons are more tolerant and cover a wider range of spines. They recover from paradox quicker than wood, and I think that tends to make them more forgiving of spine.
Fletcher recommended 60-65 wood arrows for that bow, and he knows what he's talking about when it comes to wood arrows, so you can bank on his word when it comes to wood. I think a carbon arrow marked for that spine range would be too stiff, so for the Gold Tips that I shoot I thought the 35/55's would be a better choice than say 55/75's.
I'm not an arrow expert by any means, just sharing what has worked for me. Also, do a search here for "Stu's Spine Calculator" It is a great tool for helping to pick the right shaft for you with all the variables taken into account.
the centershot is 3/16 of an inch past center.i also have been studying on the carbonexpress hertige arrows. which do you think might serve me best the 90 or 150 series?as far as the trad gatherings you mentioned i will try to attened the one at twin oaks in tn in july.thanks for the help yall. :jumper:
I shoot Eason Axis with the hidden insert. They are 500's series out of a #44 bow. Out front I have alum inserts with 175 grain tips.
