Title: Bows by Don Dow - Any information or opinions?
Post by: JPNTN on June 01, 2010, 11:09:00 PM
Just wondering if anyone has shot or owns one of Don Dow's bows?  How do they compare to say, a Kanati or Treadway? (maybe that's an unfair comparison - I'm sure you'll let me know    ;)   )The price seems to be really good and I have heard a couple good comments and recommendations here and there but would like to get a wider range of feedback. I did a search a while back here on TG but don't remember getting a lot.  I emailed him and he said he no longer does the single wood risers but uses the coreflex riser blocks as seen on his website.  Not as pretty in my book, but hey, if it makes a good bow, and it's covered with a grip, guess it don't matter much.

Looking forward to your input.  JP

Don't know how they compare to a Kanati or Treadway, but the one I have performs well, since I replaced the string, that came on it, with a 10 strand d97. Good speed, quiet, and no hand shock.

My first bow was Dow... I would still own it but thought at the time I wanted more weight, WRONG !! This was his older design. Wish I had the little bow back, sweet shooter and one of the best bang for the buck bows anywhere.

Don is building me one right now for my daughter.

Desert Camo with pecan/red hickory lams. Clear Glass Two-Tone limbs
33# @ 26"-58" right hand

This bow is $295 plus $20= $315 Total

New TYD

Thanks for the responses so far; I'd really like to hear from those of you who own one.  Can you tell a difference b/t the coreflex risers compared to a conventional riser on another bow?  Does anyone own one of each?  C'mon & chime in!

I bought a 42# longbow from Don for the indoor winter league last year. Great looking bow-super quiet w/o any handshock with decent speed. The price seems too low for the quality of his bows.

I had a 48# Don Dow longbow, great shooter, super smooth, not overly fast, dead quiet, fit my hand great.
Wish I hadn't sold it.Great value bow.I'm sure I'll get another someday.
Treadways are in a different class in my opinion.
Faster, better overall fit and finish(compared to the Dow I had), no hand shock.
Haven't shot a Kanati, yet.

I can't compare with the other bows. I got one of Don's bows this winter. My first longbow, shoots better than I can make it. When I was there he was very busy. Good luck on your choice.

I had Don build me a low poundage bow to shoot while recovering from elbow surgery. I was very impressed. Good, low shelf and very quiet.
