Title: Pet Peev
Post by: Craig on May 26, 2010, 02:34:00 PM
If you are not going to buy something in the classifieds don't tell the person you would take them and not answer there pm's or e-mails after you already have been talking. If something came up and you can't buy it give that person a pm, It's common courtesy. I have been on here since the beginning and this is the first for me. Maybe Trad Gang is getting to big.

I'm finished venting

Don't waste a salesman's time looking at cars when you are not ready to buy for another year.  That is what Sunday is for.

Rant/

Stop asking the seller to hold something...get that one alot.

My biggest one of ALL is not getting answered when I send someone a PM.Just say you don't want it...or not even classifieds related.Just asking someone something or offerring something to someone for free to try.

How absolutely rude to be ignored...

West Virginia is a SEPARATE state, it's statehood was established on June 20th, 1863. It is in NO way shape or form a part of Virginia.

There is no "Virginia Beach".......in West Virginia.

I agree Craig....a little common courtesy goes a long way, and is appreciated by everyone....or it should be.

Same goes for those requesting pictures....if you request pictures, it's fine not to like whatever it is,or not buy it, but at least let the sender know you recieved them, along with a thank you.

Yep, and especially when you go and take pictures for them just to reply to them and they don't even bother to reply one way or another.  Very rude.

Northwest,
Understand completely. One of these days I'll have a HH Cheetah. Till then, I'll be happy with my Thunder Stick Mag & be happy in the knowledge that I'm shooting a real bow & not a recurve!  Also said with tongue planted firmly in cheek.  :goldtooth:

I agree, communication is so very important and it just peev's me that some do not reply to your PM's or let you know when or if something arrived.

That said I think I have done that exact thing before and have also asked for pics of a bow and never sent a thank you...Sorry to those I have done that too.

2 things, OMG Cheetah are a beautiful bow... and I have had my eye on a Thunderstick for a few weeks now.  I thought about the MOAB but 62" seems a little short for my 30" draw, but since it is a r/d I really don't know if the same rule applies (probably more of a guideline then a rule anyway).

But when I make a deal and someone says its done, I send my stuff and close my PM. Sometimes I just can't find them again to say Hey, it got here! But yeah, tell me quickly that you like/don't like or will consider my offer. A quick No Thanks is better than nothing.

That's like not thanking John Strunk, or Gorden Ferlitsch or .... or.... or....  CHER!

You guys think you have it bad, today someone threw a zip lock bag FULL of human feces, a diaper, a dead hanging style potted plant an empty Marborro box on my front yard. This is a small town and I think I know who did the deed, the cops came and got it as evidence.  The big question was, would I take my left hand Robertson r/d or my right hand Robertson r/d longbow that I shoot Hill style, (notice the nose in the air), to get revenge.  Of course the answer is neither. What's a PM? I don't think anyone has ever thrown one of those in my yard.

I may be guilty a time or two of not getting someone an answer as quickly as I would like but my excuse is I thought about it so much I actually thought I had done it already. Sorry Wingnut!!!!

I too have had to send this pm or e-mail too many times....

[Checking in with you!
I haven't heard back from you so I don't know what your thinking/planning.

Please let me know something!]

One more...My wife says she's not going to try to learn how to shoot a bow. Dang it!

At least let them know that it has gotten there and what shape it got there in.

And DANGIT!

Don't stand at the shooting stake and admire your shot with a pair of binoculars! You're gonna see the danged thing in ten seconds when you pull your arrow anyway!

Wait, what were we talking about?
Title: Re: Pet Peev
Post by: on May 27, 2010, 10:58:00 AM
When you see me shoot and I don't have my foot on the stake, don't worry about it.  I am a cripple and I will shoot where my feet need to be so I won't fall down.  i am not keeping score anyway. I have never, even once, wished I had a four foot chunk of rerod to put my toe against when I was shooting at a deer. It should be a circle and you can do anything you want to in that circle.

Wheelie boys are real quick with their mouths about their superior stuff, but I can empty a back quiver in the time it takes them just to get ready to shoot.

I must get frustrated easier in my old age when I can't find something or figure it out!!!..lol

It really ticks me off!!!!!

SO... since I can't find this information for myself would someone please tell me?

Do all the lists of items go on auction at the same time but end at different times and exactly what day does it start.. like when can I start spending some of my wifes' money for Fathers' Day?

Please just spell it all out for me and I'll copy it and print it out.

Thank you!

God bless,Mudd

There ain't no "s" on the end of Illinois! I know it looks like there is but there ain't!

I don't know if I respond when somebody sends me free stuff or not. Never had anyone test me on it. Might depend on what kind of free stuff it is, so if your thinkin' on testing me, you might want to consider something real good. Otherwise I might not notice and fail the test.

Winterhawk1960, there will be a Virginia Bitch in West Virginia, come July.

My pet peeve is that people are always griping.

Oh, and people not reading what they type. I am guilty of a typo here and there, but a six-inch-long paragraph consisting of a single run-on sentence in cap-lock mode does not make me particularly interested in what the writer has to say.

I'll put a +1 on that punctuation issue.
It's a pain in the butt to try to decipher a post where someone either doesn't use any punctuation or goes nuts with it.
Folks, putting a ! after every sentence doesn't do a thing to get me excited, it's just plain annoying.

There. I said it. I've been wanting to get that off my chest for months.

They don't leave them on MY neighborhood sidewalks. They put them by the dumpster or throw them in a culvert.

And put the lid down. Put it away when you're done, for crying out loud.

Do NOT park under my bedroom window and play with your car stereo. That subwoofer triggers the leftover reptilian lump in my brain that makes me lunge into kill mode.

I hate drivers that disobey street signs and then try to make a right turn from the left lane and try to cut you off so that they can get there first, wherever it is that they are going. And if you don't allow them to have their way with you, they start screaming F-bombs at you. I almost engaged in fisticuffs yesterday.

Do not mess with a woman in her fifties. She is riding a barbwire hormonal wave, and she just doesn't give a flying fritter anymore. And even if you win, where's the glory? And then she'll sue you naked for assaulting her, the poor old dear.

People who dont appreciate quality or even know it when they see it.

Yes tailgaters , no blinkers, slow in fast lane'double parking, running your buggy in the side of my truck (even though its got many scrars from being in the woods. I paid for it so I have a right). Opening your car door into mine without any care.

People who down Hill type bows cause they think our bows are somehow not efficent hunting weapons. One does not have to like my bow but calling one inefficent is not right. Plenty of game killed with them. Man I feel better.
Title: Re: Pet Peev
Post by: Brian Krebs on July 01, 2010, 03:33:00 AM
The speed limit is the speed limit; not the suggested minimum speed.

Tailgaters-- I love them. I drive my Toyota truck over rocks just to watch the tailgaters sparks fly.

Now as far as bowhunting:

I absolutely HATE when a 'bowhunter' describes his 'kill' by saying " I saw him coming; and I drew back my bow and waited for minutes for him to get into range; then I put the sight on him; then I squeezed the trigger- and BANG!! down he went - I SMOKED HIM!!!"

Also - new bowhunters. I know I was one - but its so long ago I have no empathy.
For instance: kids who grew up snorfeling their snot. They do it without even knowing it. They just suck all nasal drips in with a snort; and don't even realize anymore that it is 1. alerting game 2. disgusting.

Talking loud. There is no better way to separate the bowhunters from the rifle hunters than to talk to one in the field. The bowhunter talks softly- out of habit and because in their heart: and they hope the next second could produce a chance for a shot. That is in comparison with the guy or gal that talks loud enough to be heard two counties away by a deaf deer.

Ignoring advice from those that provide good advice.
For instance: 'sit on this stump and the deer will see you- sit over under the tree and they will not'- then you find them on the stump - talking loud about the deer they saw running off.

I HATE IT WHEN YOU SHARE A 'SECRET HUNTING SPOT' and the idiot you share it with tells all his friends about it.

DULL BROADHEADS!!!!! YES THAT WAS A SERIES OF '!!!!' IN A ROW AND THIS IS IN BOLD TYPE!!!!
BUT - WHAT IS WORSE FOR BOWHUNTING AND THE BOWHUNTING EXPERIENCE: THAN SOMEONE SHOOTING SOMETHING WITH A DULL BROADHEAD ?????

Frankly as a 32 year married than divorced man; I absolutely look back on the screams of my ex-wife when she sat on the toilet: with the toilet seat up. Sorry. But I still like remembering the sounds.

Mosquitoes. Sorry God; but those things just suck.

ATV's off roads. I hate them. I want a season on them.

People that do not understand that adventure is a never ending goal; and that killing an animal is part of an adventure - not proof you can accomplish things.

and me too: people that eat with their mouth open!

When calling someone and going to voice mail, or to an answering machine, you have to sit through what seems like a 5 minute explanation on why they can't answer the phone and how to leave a message.

When in your car and waiting in line to merge or make a turn you get the car that comes up the open lane and thinks it is their right to cut in front of you.
Title: Re: Pet Peev
Post by: ChuckC on July 02, 2010, 09:51:00 AM
Keg  you got me going with that one.

People drive like idiots, period.  Everybody has to win the race and compete.

Try something, as an experiment.  Drive down the road in town.  Speed limit +5 or so.  Everybody is going along,  now change lanes and watch that person behind you speed up to fill your vacated spot, instead of just going the speed that they were going, which was beyond the posted limit anyway.

A long time ago I lived in Memphis TN.  There is a beltline around the city.  Coming from the west, there are multiple lanes and they (used to at least) collapse into fewer as you pass the downtown.  Normally  everybody lines up in the lane that will continue and make it go smoothly, but there are ALWAYS those who are better than the rest and they go around on the "empty lane" so they can cut in front of everybody.  The truckers typically moved over in front of them and ran them off the road.

Sorry for the rant.

I think many folks just don't even think that way and really don't mean to "dis you in any way.  They just aren't wired to do those things.

I just remembered another one, and this really irks me everytime it happens.

I hate the way a cashier gives you your change back. They all started doing this a few years ago and it drives me nuts.

You hold out your hand and you get the receipt with the bills quickly stacked on top followed by a handfull of coins all dumped onto the pile. You are left there trying to sort the whole mess out while the cashier immediately starts checking out the next in line. You are all but shoved out of the way. Sometimes I just want to throw the change back at them and make them do it over.

I like this thread. I didn't realize there were so many things that pi$$ed me off.  :)

Good one, Red.  I agree.

Why do people drive below the speed limit?  I just don't get it.  Then when you get to a straight stretch to pass, they speed up.

Or people that stop at a light or stop sign, and leave a gap big enought to put 2 cars in front of them to the next car.

Oh man, don't get me going on no turn signals, talking on cell phones and holding traffic up, speeding up and slowing down,  etc.  Put the cruise on and go.
Title: Re: Pet Peev

Here is another.

I shoot a lot of tournaments and bought a camper when I retired which makes the the tournament weekend much more enjoyable. Most of the tournaments are in state parks with really nice campgrounds, the main detractors are undisciplined DOGS.

I have had dogs all my life, all working dogs, bird dogs and retrievers for the most part. When my last lab died of old age I didn't get another. All were trained to behave and several understood English very well. None of my dogs would have thought of attacking another dog or barking at a person walking by.

People bring completely untrained dogs to these tournaments, often tyeing them to a tree and leaving them barking their heads off until the owner returns or they are left outside their camper to bark all night. It is also a rare owner that cleans up after their pet, very few do.

I have confronted these people several times and found they had zero knowledge of how to even begin to train a dog.

Back when I lived to roam the fields with my bird dogs or watch a flock of mallards drop in on my decoys, us dog trainers had a saying," to train a dog you have to be smarter than the dog"

Kinda' scary to to realize I have yet to see a trained dog in a campground, says a lot about the owners intellect.

Julia Norris has a beagle that behaves 100% of the time in the campground and on the tournament course but it is a rare exception.

Those little deer hanging out with the doe, those are FAWNS, not yearlings.  There is nothing wrong (IMO) with shooting one, but a critter isn't a yearling until it is a full one year old.  Come fall, fawns are about 6 months old; a yearling is about 1.5 years old.  Button bucks are fawns.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm enjoying this thread.  It feels good to get some of these things out in the open, and I feel that I know a few of you better than before.
Title: Re: Pet Peev
Post by: Killdeer on July 03, 2010, 08:37:00 PM
Right on, Fletcher!Oh, and the change back in the hand bit...
I was a cashier many years ago, and was taught to count he change back, starting with the final price and working up to the amount tendered. No question about the accuracy, and the coins are in your hand first. Now they push a button and the machine does the math, and neither you nor the cashier knows if it is right until you get a quiet corner somewhere to count it.

If the bill comes to seven dollars even, and you hand them twelve, it throws them for a loop until the machine does the math and they see that you just wanted to get a fiver back. Make it seven and twelve cents, and add a quarter to the twelve dollars, and be prepared to talk to the manager.

Oh... I DO drive below the speed limit sometimes. The speed limit is the highest speed that you are allowed to go, not a starting point. Get me out in the back roads of West Virginia, and I spot a loggerhead shrike on a wire, or even just an old barn, and I may even stop. I hate tailgaters, I hate feeling pushed or crowded. I will pull over on a shoulder to let you pass. I feel cheated when I cannot look at the beauty of the countryside, because the people around me want to zip through it without seeing.

Pet Peeves....

The supermarket checker that asks me what something is. "What is this???" It's a turnip. "Whaddya do with it??" Well, you take it home, call it your progenitor, initiate a culture around it, and apply to be recognized as the Turnipites. Geez, what do you think it's for?! It's from the produce section, fer pete's sake!

The supermarket checker that asks me what an item costs? "Ummmm....how much is this???" It's a nickle a pound. "For real???" Yes, for real. You're obviously asking me what I want to pay, and I think a nickle a pound for a porterhouse steak is fair. And hang on a sec while I run back and get about 30 of them. I'm being generous here. I actually wanted to pay a penny a pound.

The clowns that show up at archery shop right after some fantasy movie comes out. You should have seen the local archery shop after the first Lord of the Rings came out. I pitied that poor man running that shop. "We're looking for the bow like in, you know, Lord of the Rings, you know, like Legolas uses." And after much wrangling, the poor guy deduces they want some type of longbow. And gives them a price. "What?!? Why so expensive??! Don't you have anything, you know, wooden and like that and shoots through Orcs and stuff and costs, like, you know, only twenty bucks or so?" Ummm...hey guys, can I please squeeze in here and pay for my purchase while you decide if $299 is too much to pay for killing Orcs? I don't have an Orc tag this year and I'd kind of like to get home and start work on my arrows before our local version of Gandalf shows up here asking about ordering a sword.

The same aforementioned folks who show up at the knife shop looking for "Elfin-made swords". Ummmm....are you sure they let you have sharp objects where you, um, reside?

Certain members of the Society for Creative Anachronism here that seem to have lost the ability to discern reality from fantasy. "You there! How dost thou dare to accost me such, as if I am some unwashed peasant? Dost thou not know I am the Queen's own swordsman? I challenge thee to trial by combat---rapiers at dawn tomorrow!"

Yeah? Shut up and ring up those friggin' turnips there, Sir Talksalot, before I call the manager over here and complain about this lousy customer service. And don't bag my tomatoes under them or you'll be wearing them.

Tsalagi, you're a man after my own heart.
After Lord of the Rings came out I got so many requests for arrows "just like Legolas used" that I was about ready to strangle that damned elf.

Grey, LOL, I wonder how many calls Little Chopper got for a fletching chopper that "cuts fletching in the Legolas style".

"Um, yeah, can you make me a chopper that cuts feathers into the Legolas fletch?"

"Oooo-key....what we have is Pope&Young, Sheild, Parab---"

"NO! The Legolas fletch! You know, like Lord of the Rings!"

You know, Grey, we missed our moment. Picture this!:

Every time I read how we are the only folks out there having fun because of the equipment we choose to hunt with.

I have been guilty of talking down about others who haven't made the choice or the switch to hunting the way I choose for myself.

That's got to change for me!

It is my intention to show as many folks as I can the fun I have but try not to judge them if they don't come away with the same love for it as I have.

I will work at showing respect for all other hunters whether they chose the gun, compound or yes even the crossbow.

It's not up to me to decide how much spirit they have for hunting because some of the same hunting spirit I have has to be there for them or they'd just stay at home.

I want to have a better attitude than just "live and let live" but to do my best to be a good example of what I love and support them in the areas that we do have in common. "The love of the hunt." I hopefully can do that without judging them. Deciding whether they hunting good or bad is a judgment call that's not my business unless they are breaking the law to do it nor is what they hunt with.

My choice and my opinion!!

Thank you all for allowing me to get that out there. I hope that if you catch me off track in any of my posts that you'll call me on it.(With a pm or e-mail would be my preferred method) I would hate to take a public whipping but would if I needed to in order to be held accountable.

God bless,Mudd

When someone gets the last cup of coffee out of the pot and does not ask if they should make more because they have had four cups already and that will be enough for them.  Especially when they know that you just got your first cup.

People who stand around clueless in a doorway or in the middle of any other "thoroughfare" blocking the way.

Drivers who think the flow of traffic on a highway needs to yield to THEM when they're entering from an on-ramp.

Littering.

Grrrrr......

How about when an individual asks for help regarding the use of a certain product and gets replies to their thread regarding other products?
Examples (my two favorites):
Q: I want to use epoxy for mounting tips, what's a good one?
A: The amber colored hot melt is the best thing out there.
Q: I'm using acrylic paints for cresting, what's a good clear topcoat?
A: I always use Testor's model paint for cresting, it's a lot better.
Good answers but they don't have anything to do with the questions! Come on, folks. Are you trying to help or preach?

The little squiggly red line under the word means you've misspelled it. It is easy to use, even I can figure it out.

I know, what a grouchy ole grump.....lol

Thanks for letting me get that of of my chest.

Exactly! My thoughts exactly. Lots and lots of misspelled words do nothing but distract from the story or the point trying to be made.

Another pet peeve of mine is when someone says, "I could care less about this or that.....". Come on, now! If you COULD care less about something, then that means that you do care about it somewhat, when you're actually trying to say that you don't. It's supposed to be, "I COULDN'T care less about this or that.....".

Lastly, just as already mentioned, it really irks me when some of the "more traditional than thou" folks come out and persecute those that choose to shoot or hunt with trad bows that are different from what they shoot   . Give me a break! If it ain't got wheels, then it's trad!

Whew, I feel better now!   :p
