I'm thinking about having a longbow made up with carbon in the limbs. Now the bowyer will do whatever I want but he does prefer to use actionwood or bamboo cores with glass over the entire thing.
My question is, what gives the best performance? carbon on the back? carbon on the belly? Carbon on the back and belly? carbon between the center of the limbs? Or carbon on the back and belly and down the center between the cores?
Or, does it really make that big of a difference where it is?
You see the best results with it on the back.
I allways heard on the back.
thanks guys, thats what I thought but it never hurts to double check.
Yes on the back, that is where 21st Century put it on my 21st Edge.
Like the other guys said...just put it on the back. Carbon is very strong in tension and compression. The tension part works well on the back of the bow where there is not a lot of stress on the limb core. On the belly, carbon places stress from compression on the limb core...sometimes crushing the core. Don't get me wrong, many bowyers have perfected a limb design where it works both back and belly...usually using a hardwood core. I'm no engineer...just a carpenter but that's been my experience building and experimenting with carbon limbs! Hope you enjoy your new bow...Jared
The bows that I have with carbon have it on the back. Except for the ACS - I don't know what they have going on. H
