Title: Howard Hill TD "Red Man" 64", 53@28" (Picures added)
Post by: Bill Turner on May 26, 2010, 12:02:00 PM
My new Howard Hill TD "Red Man" arrived last week. It came with the smaller TD sleeve, and with Ebony tips and riser. At 64" it is the shortest of my four Hill bows. A sterling silver whitetail head adorns the riser and makes it a real eye catcher. I had Craig add an extra lam of yew(5)to this bow instead of carbon. The 64" bow is perfect at my 27 and 3/4" draw. Performance is outstanding. I feel none of the dreaded kick that many talk about when discussing Hill tye bows. This bow is smooth as silk and will be my go to bow this whitetail season and for many years to come. I will gladly e-mail pictures to anyone who can insert them in this post or to anyone who is interested enough to contact me for a look see.   :archer2:

Good deal Bill. How does the smoothness of draw compare to a Wesley. I`ve heard Yew was a sweet bow wood but I`ve never shot a Yew bow.RC

Still the "classic" longbow for me. I hate that hybrids get called longbows when they look far more like a recurve than a Howard Hill! A handle that you actually have to learn to hold with good form instead of a recurve riser? Part of the challenge/fun! Congratulations!

I had a Redman but it was a tad too much poundage for me so I sold it, it was a nice bow.

I have seven Hill bows and numerous others that are straight limb "Hill"style bows. I prefer my Redman above all the othe bows made by Craig. It may just be a bit smoother with a tad less thump ? but mainly because I think I'm romantic at heart and a longbow should be made of yew !!! lol...
i still prefer a longer bow ...my new redman is 68" for my 27" draw but also has antler tips and ebony riser ...
looking forward to your  pics .
Ben

Saw the title of this thread and forgot for a moment I was in PowWow and not the Classifieds.    :D
Could not imagine why Bill was selling his new Redman.....   :bigsmyl:

I was present when Bill open the package from Craig and got to watch him put it together for the first time...actually he was too nervous to put it together and I had to finish it up because I thought he was going to drop it.    :bigsmyl:   Beautiful amber limbs with the contrasting black riser and tips make an awesome combination. The silver whitetail inlay caps off the elegance of this bow. Craig has really outdone himself and Bill is one lucky #@&*# to have this one in his stable of bows.

Sounds beautiful.  Love it when someone finds the bow that speaks to them.  I've shot a number of Hill style bows over the years.  Regardless of what some will say are their drawbacks, there is just something special about a Hill bow...

Can't wait to see pics!!

I bet someone will get some up for you soon.

God bless,Mudd

PS:I have a new-to-me Hill bow coming soon 70" and 42@28.. As long as the poundage has been in my range I've loved the Hill bows I've shot and a few that were even a tad over.

Congrats!  Redman with ebony riser is maybe the most beautiful of all Hills.  I had one, also a takedown, that I sold after I had to reduce my draw weight.   By and large, the Redman has the reputation of being the smoothest.   I've made a couple of yew bows, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to attach the ebony... or found any that I considered pure black enough.  Everything I come across has a lot of brown in it.

Oh, yeah, the Redman rocks   :D  .  Mine has an ebony riser.  Like Dick, I think it is the most beautiful bow on my rack--just so classy looking. It started feeling a bit heavy to me as I have aged (ripened to perfection    ;)  ) so I had Craig take a few pounds off and refinish it in flat finish as it had gloss.  It is actually far more beautiful in the flat finish.  I own four Hills presently and have another coming any day--a string follow Big Five, again with ebony riser and gray glass    :jumper:
