Ive had a few widows but never and Ironwood or Exotic. The V and X are suppose to have the bamboo laminations. Has anyone noticed any real difference in the limbs between the II, III and the V and X? Thanks
Sheyenne,
I tested quite a few BWs and found the V models (actionboo limbs) to be up to 2 fps faster than other models. When you add veneers, like on the X models that speed advantage may be negated, depending on the the veneer wood used. So for 2 fps in the speed department I wouldn't worry.
The other thing is feel and I'm not talking about the feeel of the draw, but the feel after you release. The bamboo limbs create a different vibe in the bow, that I like. It's hard to put that feel into words.
So to be sure to pick the right one, it would be best to try them out first. Speed wise I wouldn't hesitate to go for the wood combination that appeals the most to me.
Hope that helps.

Hello, I've have had the action boo and the older hard rock maple limbs.I think the maple is the smoother of the two.The only one's i've had that i didnt like was a x bow with bacote veneer's.It was very stackey and not as fast as the other limbs i've owend. Thanks'Jim
I agree with 2 Barrels - to my perception the maple action wood limbs seem to be just a bit smoother.
The new bamboo (Actionboo ?)seems a noticable bit snappier - if that's a good way to describe them.
And by my chrono agrees with Blacky - about 2 fps faster - with everthing else being equal.
I have not tried any of the exotics - only the BW Ironwood vs the Greybark version.
It's alot subjective - and for me - I like the Ironwood bow a lot. I think it a bit heavier in the riser and that is good for me. And I like the brown tone look.
Now if you don't like brown - you might not like it no matter how it shoots ......

Thanks, good info.
I had a psa built a couple years ago with gray stained action boo and diamond back skins. My pma v has amber boo wich is about the color of yew wood.So you can get the action boo in differnt colors. You just need to decide is the two extra f.p.s. is worth the extra cost.Jim
I like the feel of boo better its just a personal thing I have a Sax Bocote 49@28 it is fast and quiet and drawls smoother than other fastfligtht bows I shot. Widow
I agree with what everyone else is saying. I too think that both cores produce a different feel at the shot, but I'll be the oddball and tell you that I like the feel of the actionwood better. To me it has a stouter feel that just seems right in my hands. That said, I've owned a bunch of BW's with both corewoods and really could shoot either of them. Just a matter if you want to spend the extra money, and honestly, I'd only do it for looks not feel or performance. If you like the exotics or ironwood look then the extra dough may very well be worth it...Mike
