Title: What arrow should I use
Post by: mudSwine on May 24, 2010, 10:08:00 PM
Ok, I'm very new to Traditional bows.  I love a lot of the traditions ways and the bows look awesome.

I just got a Bear recurve Bow.  60" 45# at 28" draw.  I have a 27" draw and my shoulders are mush. I need to know what arrows I  should be using. I would like to hunt White Tail deer some day.

 Thanks

It all depend upon your point weight that you would like to use, but an easton or beman arrow in the 600 spine marking would probably be ideal.
The Carbon Express Heritage size 90 would also probably suit you fine.

Hope you enjoy your new bow!

I shoot a similar setup. Bear tkd 50lbs@28 and hoyt gamemaster 2 45@28 my draw is 26"s. This arrows flys perfect out of both bows. Goldtip 3555trad full length 145 grain tip 4" 4 fletch.

Weighs- 456 grains and 150 grain broadheads are common. I dont have to change anything for hunting.

Thought this might help you.

I'd try a 50-54 in wood or a 1916 in aluminum with 125 gr points.  Cut both to 28" to the back of the point (BOP).

why dosen't anyone recommend wood?  Wood arrows and traditional bows go hand in hand.

Larry, Great to see you posting and shooting. 1918 would be my 1st choice too as others have said. 2016 would be my 2nd choice.

I don't have any 1918 shafts but would be happy to fletch you up some 2016 and send them your way to use. Let me know.

hhmmm personally, I'd try a 31-32" 2016 with 145gr.  My gal shoots a 40 pounder at aboot 26-27"....and I conveniently made longer arrows that work awesome for her....and adequate for me.
You know.... so I can show her what's she's doing wrong....when she's shooting better than me !  (which is pretty much always    :(   )     ;)

They do work really good... I'm actually jealous.    :knothead:

jcar315;

Thanks so much for the great offer . I could not ask you to do that . I have a few arrows that I can shoot for now. I was just looking ahead for when I need some better arrows.
As always John you are one of a kind and I very proud to call you my friend.
