Title: Cleaning sheep skins...
Post by: OkKeith on May 24, 2010, 09:30:00 AM
Hey Guys,

I have a few old sheep skins that I have used for various projects. I have lined the top of a quiver with a piece, made several silencers, that kind of stuff. I have one whole one left and it is filthy!

I have a project or two I would like to use it for but it's way too dirty. Anyone have any idea how to clean it? I thought about just throwing it in the washing machine but the hide wouldn't be soft anymore and who knows about shrinkage.

Advice?

OkKeith

You can "break" the skin on a coner of something. should soften back up - reall y not sure of the washing machine idea. Might need some sort of bacterail killin soap and maybe not the washer?
