I have a friend from church that I have been hunting his property for the last 5 years. He has been watching me have so much fun chasing his deer around with my trad gear he's ready to pick up a stick and have some fun of his own. :help:
There are a number of 66" long bows available from bowyers who are sponsors on this site.
Any of them will pretty much exceed expectations.
For the money a maddog 66", could try a Robertson if money is not a problem. something in the low forties at 28", for a Hill 70" is what I would use if I was that tall.
just a thought hopefully someone will second me here. since he just started a 50# may be a lil heavy. Maybe start at a lower # and get some good form going. sorry if I offended anyone
Definately for that tall of a guy the longer you can find the bow the better.
I agree that longer is better for a longer draw length, at least 68 inches for a straight bow. 64 would work for a hybrid, but 66 would feel even better there as well. In a recurve, 64 would work, though 66 inches would probably feel better yet. And next we'll hear from all the guys with 30-inch draws shooting 60-inch bows. :)
If he has some meat on that 6'4-inch frame, 50#@30 should be OK.
I draw 30.5" and the 66" Chek-Mate Crusader longbow is my favorite bow to date, and has been my favorite for the past 15 years. It's 66@30.5--gains 2.5# per inch to at least 31".
There are shorter bows that will handle the draw length, but you get finger pinch--my guess is he has fairly big hands (I wear a size 15 wedding band). A longer bow helps with that also.
Howard Hill Archery can turn out a 70" AMO 50# at 30" longbow. I might agree that a 43#-47 Wesley Special would be a great choice. I have tried one that was 55#@28 and a 68" and I felt no stacking at all. A very smooth bow indeed.
MOHAWK CLASSIC  :archer: :goldtooth:
Mike Ballenger's Seven Lakes 66 inch longbows are VERY nice to shoot.

From what I've heard of Vince's Mohawk Bows, that is what I'd recommend as well.
It is cheap enough new, has a very good reputation, is long enough, decent wait for a new one, or there are some for sale in TGs Classifieds!
If the Mohawk does not appeal to him, there are a lot of good offers in the Classifieds, and very few bows are actually bad, though some have more handshock than others, and requires a liking to be enjoyed properly..
I would just stay away from shorter bows that are going to stack at that draw,I would say 66'' to 72'' you should be fine.
If he is a starting archer, you want to match everything to him the best way possible. Get him someplace where he can try several bows. Lower #, longer bows that produce good arrow flight will put him in the driver's seat. Make him want to stay w/ it. If he can feel the difference for himself, then he'll be on his way. He will make the decision, w/ your guidance.
Mohawk Classic :archer: If you don't like it I'll give you a money back guarantee! :archer: :goldtooth: :jumper:
Keith Chastain's Wapiti accommodates long draws very well. Go to WWW.RMSG.com (http://www.rmsg.com) they may have something used in their stock.

I'm 6'4" with a 30" draw. My Bamas draw just fine at 30" super smooth!
They are 68" though. I think Nathanael can make you a 66" you would just have to inquire. A basic Hunter will only run you $279. I love mine.
His site is www.bamabows.com (http://www.bamabows.com)
Maddog also makes a great bow! I've heard great things.
