Tell me about bug skinz or any other clothing or solution that works. Anything work for both skeeters and chiggers?
I use Backwoods OFF and it seems to keep everything off me.
Try Permanone (get it at wallyworld) for the chiggers. I like insect-shield or buzz-off clothing for the skeeters (look this up on the net).
This combination works out OK.
Nothing works as well as spray on the chiggers. I like my Thermacell for flying bugs.

What wingnut said!!!!

User Permanone to prevent chigger bites and if that doesn't work get Chigarid. That is the only I found that will stop the itching.
Call me crazy, but I have a bit of an issue with spraying stuff on my body and clothes that not only repels but kills misquitos and ticks.
The thermacell is interesting though. I might have to look into that more.
I got these from just shooting in my yard, so i know its going to be a tough season in the woods and chasing cows across the pasture.
Use a good deep woods "off" type product.. I spray from my knees down and cover my boots...
No issues with bugs.

Permanone will kill the chiggers if you spray on your pants from the knee down. Ticks are equally affected by it- we have world class chiggers where I hunt and I've not hadabite in years
Permanone on your cloths.
wingnut has it!
Thermocell and off around legs groins wrist neck
I've not had a single bite inside my bug skinz. I have the socks, pants and shirt. I also like it for warm weather hunting as it seems to have an air conditioner effect.
God bless,Mudd
I put Permanone to the test down in South Texas. As anyone who has ever hunted there knows the ticks and redbugs are plentyfull and hungry and will eat you alive. Permanone works, Off was totaly worthless. This stuff is safe to use,it is made from a type of flower who's name excapes me at the moment.
Permanone on CLOTHING ONLY and let air dry (it is toxic to the liver) is very effective for ticks and redbugs/chiggers. It kills the little pests. I believe I had read that it stays bonded to the clothing for two weeks so I spray my hunting clothes about every two weeks and this has been effective for keeping the little buggers off of me.
Deet works well for ticks, redbugs and skeeters but I don't like the associated odor while hunting. Plus if you put it on while your very hot (common here in the south) it burns and made me very light headed. Thermacell is a wonderful product for skeeters.
Chrysanthemums....I think.
used to use it on my garden so's you could eat vegs without growing a third eye...safe in 2 days to eat..not 7! Just let it dry well, air out, rather odorless... and works through one washing! Amazing stuff..
I work out in the woods everyday as a soil scientist. I use a pair of rocky mountain low gaitors that are sprayed with permanone to defeat the red bugs and ticks. They seal off the opening between your pants and boots and keep all the creepy crawlies outside your clothes. The permanone kills anything that comes into contact with them. Works great!
I believe Permanone contains pyrethrin which is derived, as Doc Nock says, from chrysanthemums.
homebru
Permanone has permethrin, not pyrethrin! Don't get it on your skin, it's bad news!
It's great stuff and designed to be sprayed ON YOUR CLOTHES and then allowed to dry.
It really is the best stuff going to keep ticks and other critters off of you but it will warp you genetic code and cause no telling what other problems.
OkKeith
Thanks for that info guys. I will look into permanone. After a little research, I feel a little better about it.
Where I will be hunting will be FULL of redbugs and other critters.
OKKeith,
You see how many of us use it and there ain't nuttin rong..wron...nudtin..nutt... wit..wit ME!
Betbebet.. that's all folks!
 :knothead: :help:
when I was in the army I used sulfur powder. It kills the chiggers like crazy but its messy to use.Not so bad though when you place it in the top of your socks and its very cheap to buy at any drug store.A friend of mine uses flea collars on the top of his boots but not against his skin and swears by them.He tells me it really works and there's never a mess.I am gonna try it this fall.
No worries Doc! I guess a benefit would be if you loose a finger you might be able to grow a new one. It might not be on your hand, but hey, no big deal.
The sulfer powder does work pretty good. I keep mine in an old tube sock and use it to dust the tops of my boots and pant legs. It keeps the chiggers off and slows down the ticks.
I also use a set of elastic pant cuff gaiters. Basically two elastic tubes I pull up to the top of my boots and tuck my pant legs into. In my experience, ticks and chiggers require both chemical and mechanical intervention to keep ALL of them off.

Well, I'll be...that explains some strange appendages..
Thanks, bud!
Ok so far my none genetic code altering options seem to be bug skinz or sulfur powder and rubber bands? haha
I don't know about yah but I often hit the deck when hunting so full body protections is a must
Btw, truely thank you to all the helpful answers. Everyone on this sight is top notch in my book!
While we're on the bug hatin' topic, has anyone tried mosquito soap? How bout the L.L. Bean clothing with bug repellent embeded into the fabric.
bug skins do not work for skeeters. at least they dont in aneast texas swamp. thermacell is great, if the wind is not blowing
I use deep woods off sprayed from the knee down and around my belt line. . Then a t cell for skeeters. Yellow flies bite no matter what during fly season.RC
Permanone is a Southern staple for chiggers and ticks. Very effective. For mosquitos I use a bug suit, face mask and gloves. Around the eyes, the only exposed area on my body, I use a repellant called Natural Causes. It contains Cedar oil, Citronello, Geranium oil, Lemongrass and a bunch of other natural things. It has a vegetable odor but not a chemical smell. It works well. Sometimes, I also use the Therma Cell. Overkill? No, there is no such thing as overkill. You either have a bug problem or you don't. By the way did I mention I hate bugs?
I use gaiters (sp) that I bought several years ago that were made by buckwing. They are made of a stretchy material that is kind of like an elbow brace. Works well for keeping chiggers, ticks, redbugs etc from crawling up my pant leg.
Avon "Skin so soft" lotion is the bees knees. Used it in service in the desert.
FWIW...I hate bug BITES! Guess cause of all the danged allergies, but I swell up something awful at a bug bite site and it STAYS swollen and itches like fire for 2 weeks. Chiggers? Had em last year and didn' know you could get em in PA! I about scratched myself raw :scared:
Been using the permanone spray for years. I find that by laying out my clothes, spraying till damp, my full head covering, hat, gloves, shirts, pants, socks...and letting them line dry and air 24 hrs...
.... ready? I don't even get bothered by skeeters! Hunted Blackwater Refuge for sika on Md's E. shore... and they were everywhere...but would dive in and back off...kinda neat... that was before T-cell came to live at my house!
Had that same "hover but don't land" experience with skeets for many years. And I'm the guy at a cookout who gets bit when nobody is being bothered...so yeah, I'm kinda a huge fan of permanone!
Really havnt stressed em, chiggies, here in the past few years and in eastern NC they can be rough. seed ticks can be a pain - turn white socks brown! I keep my trousers tucked away in my socks covered by a knee boot - seems to be a big help.
Thermacell is awesome on the skeeters.

hunt in in any month that starts with a "2". :)
