I recently bought a Super Shrew Samuri from a fellow Tradganger. 58" long and 48# @ 26".
The sting that came with it was very quiet and fast. I am not sure what material it is made of. It has 8 strands with padded loops. Has 2 sets of wool like silencers. They apear to be some kind of animal hair. One set about 10" from the tips and one set against the loops.
I made an 8 strand DF 97 with 6 strands of DF 97 padding the loops. I put 2 wool silencers on it about 10" from the tips. This new string is slighly larger in diameter than the old one. It still shoots fast but is noisier.
I have set the brace height from 7" to 7 1/2" with both strings.
So my question is what string setups have you Super Shrew shooters found to perform the best for you in quietness and good speed?
Thanks, Jim
Most likely it's 450 plus. Ron sells them on his website.
I have found a 6 or 8 strand 450 plus to be the best string for me. They don't creep and are very quiet and the added benefit is they seem to be a bit faster than other materials.
Enjoy your Shrew :)
Ken
6 strand 450+ is the way to go with that 48#er.
I use 6 strand 450+ padded loop strings on my 60# longbows and haven't had a problem, except for the excessive speed I get from them. I hate when that happens! Ha!
When served they fit my nocks on my CX Heritage arrows very well.
Just contact Ron LaClair and he will get you the right string for your bow. :)
I believe Ron uses 450 for his strings, and you can't get any better for your Shrew. I tried a couple, but like Ron's the best.
450+
Ditto on 450+
Shoot straight, Shinken
Thanks for all the replys guys. I think 450+ is going to get the nod. I think I will order a string from Ron LeClaire. May also get some 450+ and make a few of my own to try. Again, thanks.
All of you take care, Jim
