Hey guys need some help on info on a Bear bow I am looking at. It a Grizzly with a pewter medalion, so I believe it is a 1961 or 1962, white fiberglass on both belly and back. 62" 48#s right handed. The odd thing is the riser, it looks to be zebra wood on the sight window side (shelf side) and maple or another fine grained wood on the opposite side. Above and below the sight window is also this "maple". It appears only the sight window is zebra wood. I have never seen a Bear bow like this. Is this unusual or did the early 60's come this way.
Are the early 60's Grizzly's good hunting bows or are they so so in reference to smoothness and shooting qualities. I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.
There are a few small scratches in the finish of the riser but nothing major and the limbs are straight and no cracks in the limbs. Tips are near perfect. Was wondering what it would be worth. e *** is not much help, the only ones on there were between fifty dollars and 2hundred and 50 dollars. None of those have this type of riser, so I need some help.
Thanks, Al
You have found a 1962 Bear Grizzly. A very good shooting bow.
The riser is typically of ibeam design with the center slab being zebrawood and the outer two slabs are some sort of walnut.
Worth what someone is willing to pay. Typically $150.00 to $250.00 depending on condition and draw weight.
Trap
I am just finishing up a refinish on a 62 Grizzly that was donated to the St. Jude auction by SELFBOW19953. In my opinion, one of the best looking years for a Grizzly, and great shooting too.
I agree with TRAP and Whip all the way around. You have a 1962, which is typically a great shooting bow. I have some recent experience in buying these and I would say TRAP's observation on price is accurate.
Shoot it before you make any hasty decisions on selling....I provide caution though...shooting a 1962 Grizzly can turn one from being a prospective seller of Bear bows to a buyer!
Agree with all above. Great shooting bow. Mike
great looking great shooting bow look anything like this one ? bd (http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii175/bowdocsarchery/62griz002-3.jpg)
Bowdoc, that is it... minus the feather rest and side plate. The wood on the lower riser and above the riser appears to be a little lighter, but same fine grain.
Thanks for all the info. I think I will try the bow if it is still avalible. If I get it I will post some pics...
Thanks again, Al
