Title: Anyone shoot a Soma tab?
Post by: oneshot-onekill on May 14, 2010, 03:26:00 PM
Have always shot with a glove but thinking about trying a tab. Have any of you tried the Soma tab? A buddy of mine uses one and says he really likes it. What are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks

I have one that I use on students that can't/won't relax their string hand and get the back of the hand straight.  But only as a training device.  The point at the back of the plate pokes you in the palm if you start, or are curling, your string hand -- for that it's a good thing.

If you don't curl your hand, there is little to no benefit for the large Soma plate.  At that point, you may want to consider the Cavalier tab.  Same idea without the "training" point on the plate.  Less "stuff" in your hand.

Note: In no way have I said that the Soma is "no good" it is an excellent tab especially with the shell cordovan leather finger tab.

Rod Jenkins has a nice little segment about it in his portion of "Masters of the Barebow 3"...
