....shroooommmsss!!!!! I tell ya, I had great day with my buddy Rodd Szmania shootin...er....a....shroomin at our archery club! We started out shootin the 3D course, found a morel right off the trail, then it was on! We spent the entire day shootin a target, then looking for mushrooms, shootin a target, then lookin for shrooms... to bad our shootin wasn't as good as our shroomin but what a blast!!!!
RER, Big River and a pot of gold!

Congrats on the great find. I'm still too much of a chickens@#$ to try picking my own.
I think the only kind of mushrooms around here are the magic kind.
Morrel shooting/roving,hunting posts have been allowed every spring since Trad Gang started. Please leave this one as it is traditional on Trad Gang.
Thanks
Man I can taste a little home-made bluberry wine, fried wild turkey, and fried morels...I just had that same combination a week ago and seeing the pics of those awesome bows and morels makes me wish our shrooms weren't already gone for the summer!
still finding them here and there while out stumpin'. Congrats on the great find!
We've been lucky too!! Needs to warm up a bit so more pop out.

I've been looking but no success. I must be a poor shroomer!
Oh man, what a fantastic day, sticks and shrooms.
I left the bow at home on Sunday and took the hand carved walking stick by Ron W, I won at the JLMBH. My wife and I found about 2 pounds. I fried them up with some venison Medallions MMMMMM.
I usually can get about 25$-30$ a pound. Usually though I just eat them all.
Good Looking Big Rig River Joe! when are you expecting the new one?
Good job Joe dinner is when?
DD
Charlie if you send some of those down here when you find them I'll lead you right up to the tree where I have all the hogs tied up!!!!!
Ray,
PM me your address. Did you get my check?
pile of yummm!nice finds guys, great pic arwin.
Even in Nebraska it seems a bit early. Friends have found some on the river bottom but it has been a hectic search so far up this way. Ground just hasn't warmed up yet.
I keep checking those downed trees at the root base, no luck yet.
Nothing better than breaded shrooms and scallions sauteed in Real Butter.
Finally found some this season today and they were all starting to rot already :( .Great pic Arwin.
I came to the conclusion today that the morel season is nearly over in southern Wi. Even though I found them today they were borderline. Here are 2 to 3lbs. I found two days ago that were still OK. Doesn't take long for them to go from OK to over the hill. It was an extraordinary long season this year, 1st on April 22 and last on May 11 for me.

It was fun. I hope to find more. Funny how you can walk past them and not see them, maybe several times. Then they just come out of hiding.
Sad to say that they seem to be near the end in southern NY........most that I've been finding recently are on the "aged" side!
Me and my son found 22 today in about a half hour.We are gonna fry them up with some fresh brook trout this weekend.
That's awesome David! Were have a good rain tonight and supposed to be in the 70's by Friday, so hoping they pop up again! What a great treat that would be! Good times!
still over a foot of snow where we found some last year....
Yat da hey.... Another view of a great find!

Around here we have mostly the little "deliciousa" species and the occasional black, but the season has been over in the South for a month. The first two weeks of April is the prime time.

why are these so good and where do you usally find them?
Why are these so good? You'd have to ask the Creator that one. Floured, seasoned, and deep fried they can't be beat, or sauteed in butter with chives and garlic, yummmm!
You usually find them associated with certain types of trees like elms, ashes, yellow poplars, junipers, and some others. The are only up for a few weeks in spring.
Ill join in the fun
