With all the new (and old) broadheads out there, I was wondering what broadheads will you be using this hunting season? I'm not trying to start a 2 blade vs 3 blade or a single bevel vs double bevel argument; I was just curious to see what folks are planning to use and their reason for changing.
I guess I need to start it off. Last year I used the Zwickey 4-blade Eskimo. This year I'm planning to use the Magnus I 4-blade broadhead. Reasons for change:
#1- I can get the Magnus sharper (plus its easier to sharpen with a file in the field if I need to.)
#2- More versitile (I can use it as a 2 blade or I can use the larger Magnus I bleeder blades for a wider cut or I can use the smaller bleeder blades that Eclipse uses for a smaller cut like the 4-blade Eskimos. Heck, I can even use Bear bleeder blades if I want to. They don't fit as tight but a little glue will fix that.)
#3-Lifetime guarantee- Miss your target and bend one or break one; drop it in the mail and ya' get a new one. In my book, thats hard to beat!
I have been using the Woodsman 150's but after shooting the new VPA Terminator 175 non vented I am tuning my arrows to handle these. They look to be a real strong head. My only problem is the sharpening, hope KME can set me up at Denton.
Same as always; either Woodsman, Magnus 1 (2 or 4 bld), Zwickey Delta (2 or 4 blade), Snuffer, Deadhead or Ace Super Express. Basically any combination of whichever 4 I grab on the day! :D
I usually Zwickey Eskimo 4 blade but this year I will be using some 200gr Tuskers that I won on Tradgange because I feel it will be paying my respect to all of you all and the sponsor that gave them away. So they will be on the end of my arrows till some backstrap is on the table.
Only and always a Zwickey Eskimo..(two blade)
I gonna switch to Zwickey, I think the delta's with the 160 grain 2 blade. Gonna work real nice with the 100 grain brass inserts I have in my Beaman ICS carbons.
Ace Standard 2-blade. Same as last year. Tough as nails, easy to sharpen, great ratio.
They've got the mojo for me. I need as much as I can get.
Simmons Interceptor 190gr. I have been more than pleased with the big results. Little tricky to sharpen but fly like darts and damage like a bush ax!
grizzly el grande 190gr.
150 gr. WW and Zwickey Eskimo 2 blade
Ace ,Zwickey ,Mangnus or Bear razorheads. Depends on what bow I grab and the arrows for that set up!
Well I ordered STEEL FORCE TRADITIONAL HEAD 145GR. BROADHEADS from Lancaster, but they send me STEEL FORCE PHAT HEAD Series. Not exactly the same so I might send them back.
Muzzy Phantoms!
Going to use the Ashby ifin I ever recieve em - if not then grizz 160s and WW 200s? think that is what they are - non vented ones anyhow.

Muzzy Phantoms
I've narrowed my choice to Woodsman, Magnus Stinger or Snuffer.
200 gr. vpa terminator. Sharpens very easily and it appears to be tough. 200 gr. Snuffers (125 gr. glue on with 75 gr. adapter) will be waiting in the wings.
Grizzly 200 and Abowyer Large Bonehead 210 with 270 gr. adapters.
Wouldn't mind trying to bust some chops with the VPA 250 if I can get a good deal on them.
I have quite a few ABowyer Brown Bears-haven't killed anything with them yet, and hope to change that in a few months.
Ace Standard. Cheap as can be, and sharpens so damn easy.
I'm going to try the new left wing El Grande Grizzly
probably. If I don't like them back to the Magnus 1 two or four blade or an original WW. So many great heads to chose from who knows.
Zwickey 4bld eskimo's
steelforce 2 blade 225grain
I've got about 2 dozen Bear Razorheads on 125 grain adapters so I'm set for a while.
Recently I've dropped my draw weight from 62# to 55# - and I've been concerned about having enough to consistantly get a pass thru shot.
So this year I am going to use Magnus Stinger 4 blade. Which co-incidently looks a lot like the old Bear razorheads when you put them side by side - hmmm, old Fred must have know something that the new generation has discovered !!!
I've been experimenting with sharpening using a diamond stone, sharpening guide, etc and I can get them preeeety sharp. Although I need to take them apart to get the bleeder out and sharpened - which is a bit tedious.
I'm going to stay with heavier shafts too - using the weight tubes in my C.E. Terminator shafts.
Chinook
Woodsman 3 Blade and Eskimo 2-Edge
I will be slingin Zwickey 2 blades
Howard Hills 160 gr what I always use out of a Hill Tembo 70@30
Zwickey Eskimo 2 blade.
Looking forward to my first bow harvest this year. I have the same debate going on in my head... 2 blade for penetration... or 3 blade for blood trail.
Right now it's between Magnus Stingers or Snuffers.
Please steer us right!
150gr Magnus Snuffers.
I'm going with either my tried & true Magnus Snuffers or the Woodsmans.
Zwickey 125 gr. two-blade.
Muzzy Phantoms and Razorcaps
VPA 250's, and Simmons Land Shark 160's
Stingers worked real well last year but its hard to give up my Snuffers!!
ace standards for me. 160 gr
Abowyer brown bear or New Gizz 200 grn.
I'd like to get comphy with the grizz's just cause they're cheaper.
Course if my bow was done it'd be easier to say....
Woodsmans for elk, Woodsmans or Snuffers for deer and antelope(if I draw).
Woodsman elites 160 and the 150 el grandes. Just gotta do my part :archer2:
I recently scored 15 [5-3pks] of the wider "prototype" 1 1/4" 250 gn. screw in non- vented VPA "terminators"...these will be my head of choice for a Black Bear hunt with Homer Ocean Charters 2 weeks from now.
I usually use 160 griz/75gn. steel insert, but hoping for a great blood trail with this new 3 blade head...It's being made from solid stock with no brazing or resistance welding, should be very strong as there are, or should be no weak spots. I have great expectations for this head.
Hopefully, I'll be able to report something on them performance wise when I get home. :wavey:
Zwickey delta's 2 blade. the same one i've been using for years. why change when it been working for you?
Simmon's are my choice they leave the best blood trails. They fly straight and get good and sharp. LCH
Any thing Zwickey.
STOS last year and STOS this year. I use the 160 gr. glue on to a 42 grain adapter. Got to get some for my woodies.Triple thick
tanto tip, very easy sharpening, Rockwell hardness of 49-51 and they fly like field points.
I had broadheads narrowed down to two for a while now.The Big Simmons and woodsman were pretty much the cream of the crop for my concerns. Now the Woodsman has been replaced with the VPA solid blade Terminators. For my needs I can't see ever using anything else unless someone improves on the Simmons type heads.Just don't get any better than these two broadheads for the animals I hunt and the bow weights I do it with.jmo
125gr Magnus II's with 75gr adapter...cause they're all I have.
Abowyer Brown Bears for us this year.
Mike
tusker concordes, with woodsmans as back ups.
Eclipse 145s.
Seem to fly good, they came w/ the bow/arrows when I bought them.
s.
Snuffer! Awesome blood trail at a great price. Easy to sharpen too... which means alot to me. :knothead:
Steelforce Hellfire's from 3-Rivers. Excellent flying and tough head. Great price at $16.99 for 3.
snuffers and stingers
Abowyer Brown Bears.
snuffer 125s magnus as backups
I think i might try the Tusker Concordes.
This year I'm going to use Steelforce 150 grain 4 blade broadhead. Excellent broadhead, reasonably priced, got them at 3 rivers.
STOS for 2 blades and Razorcaps for 3
150gr. Woodsman w/ 100gr. inserts, fly awesome w/ my set-up.
im thinkin of using some Tusker Deltas for my elk/bear hunt this fall! Ive been tinkering with 'em and have gotten comfortable with the sharpening of them, and they have done very well in surviving the penetration tests ive put them through!
B.D. 2 blade Delta.
Ace Standards. I've been shooting them since 2004, and if it's not broke...
I have been using the same arrows since 95:
160gr Ribteks (2 blade) on douglas fir shafts
160gr Snuffers (3 blade) on sitka spruce shafts
I have utmost confidence in these broadheads so have no reason to change. They sharpen right up and with a light coat of p-jelly, stay sharp for few days.
When my ribbies are all gone I imagine I will move on to either GRIZZLY 160gr or Tuskers 160gr...since they stopped selling the ribbies. :(
woodsman and magnus 4... Great success with both..
Muzzy Phantoms
Muzzy 125 3 blade. No complaints from critters yet.
I haven't killed anything yet so what do I know? I have a 6 pack of Zwicky Eskimo 125's which I see mentioned here a number of times. Just read a broadhead article in the latest Trad Bowhunter and am looking at the Magnus and Eclipse teflon coated to try. Make them fly right first, get me a KME sharpener, cut myself a few times and see what happens....
Muzzy Phantoms,200 grain 2 blade
Zwickey Delta's or Eskimo's or Magnus I's. Haven't decided on 2 or 4 blade...
Magnus I two blade. Got some grizzly 190's but can't bring myself to abandon the magnus heads. Been shooting them for as long as I can remember.
Magnus
hey magnus, it's ez 2 c why u choose magnus, lol. i'm going with 200gr. vpa.
Magnus 2 blade
160 gr Ribteks on POC shafts.
Old 160 Grizzly's
STOS 145s
Muzzy Phantoms
Same as I have been using since 1976 Snuffers, no reason to change .
Let me ask something - does anyone end up hunting new areas where you need to be ready for more distant shots & if so how does that influence your bh selection? I will likely be in such an area & am considering changing to lighter set up for 30-35 yd shots. Will be using a 60# MAIII, 58# Cascade shortie back up. Any thoughts if you were in my shoes?
Thanks,

I won't take a shot over 20 yards so even if I'm hunting a new area, I'll find some way to close the distance where I'm confident of killing the animal and not take a chance of wounding it. To each, their own.
Abowyer Wapiti. 175 gr. with 75 gr. adapter.
Hope to be zipping one through a Northern Alberta bear next week.
Really liking the magnusI. Flies great, and after a little reshaping with the file, sharpens great with my KME(everything I own gets honed with a KME). Gonna be my go-to head with whitetails and turkeys with the wide cutting diameter. Also will have ace standards in the quiver. Will also use STOS 160s as my go to for elk. All will weigh 200grs.
Haven't decided yet, but it will be 2 blades. Will probably go with a speed, flat shooting, lightweight setup and slower heavier FOC setup. Maybe use the heavy FOC's in the real thick, bedding area edges and lighter setup in more open areas.Broadheads will be Zwickey, Magnus, Tusker or Ace of some weight.
Muzzy phantoms for the smaller stuff,160 grizzly for moose.
Same head since 92 Zwickey Eskimo.
either 190 gn ribtek or 160 gn Ace
Been using Zwickey 2bld Eskimo since early 1970's. Have taken elk, deer, moose, grizzley, Mt. Lion lots of turkey, javelina, etc. They are the best and easy to sharpen and you don't have to morgage the farm to buy them.
Just bought a pack of Eclipe 2 bld last year. Very similar to the Zwickey. I am impressed.
my recurve im shooting zwickey delta 2 blade 170
my long bow im shooting rither 150gr snuffers or stingers 150gr
thinking about buying some simmon sharks
dunno I have shot Zwickey deltas for 30 years, keep strayin off to try new stuff and always wind up back at zwickey 4 bld deltas. so I guess thats where I am.....
I got some Battle Axe heads Monday. These baby's are wicked looking. I can't wait to see what kind of a blood trail they make.
Zwickey!!! Been shootin these heads for 10 years. Great results.
Depends on my which bow I pick up, but it will either be the old Magnus 2 blade or the old Bear 2 blade. Operable word here is "old". If it works, I don't change it.
I'll be using a Woodsman, Snuffer and Zwicky Delta 2-blade.
Zwickey Delta 4 blades on most things...deer and bear for sure.....and I'll have a couple of Zwickey No Mercy 4 blades in the quiver for hogs of any size also when I'm in hog territory.
I'm also going to order some of the new Trail Blazers from Kustom King to play with....and I wouldn't be afraid to use them on anything.

A broadhead that gives the me best accuracy at long range will also do so at close range. And that's the head I want at
any range. ;)
Well for me its all close range. There is one condition that I will choose a different BH - wind. There are times here when the wind is well stupid! Getting close is the best option, I also like to increase my odds with a head that's real wind friendly. So far the old Howard Hill BH is the winner in the wind arena. Some others are real close, but the Hill seems to slice through and stays pointy end forward. H
Muzzy Phantoms SS
I only pull about 48 lbs. "Z" 4 blades shot thur 3 deer last year. Easy to sharpen, cheap, strong, fly great!!!! Don't see no reason to change!
Steel Force. I had good experience with them when I shot com#%&nd. I sharpen them out of the box, and can get them just down the road.
Two and 4-blade Zwickey Deltas (been shooting those for more than 30 years), 160 grain STOS and 175 Grain Abowyer Wapitis depending on the game and bow.
Stinger 150 4 blade, regular and Buzzcut for elk.
Love my Magnus Stinger's but may give the new Wensel Woodsman Elite a try this season.
VPA Terminators for Elk.
Muzzy Phantom SS 4 blade for deer.
160gr Snuffer for Turkey
I haven't seen anything fly better than a Phantom!!! Jason
got me some 160 snuffers coming so I'll try them on some deer. Hopefully.
Undecided! I have been using Zwickey Deltas but I am considering trying something else. But what I don't know? :wavey: I will have a look at Muzzy Phantoms or maybe Woodsmans.
STOS
They just seem to work well and I can get them scary sharp.
And to quote someone I have a great deal of respect for " Sharp is where is it at "
D
I picked up some pearson deadheads (always liked the way they looked) and going to give them a go this fall. Anyone ever or still shooting this broadhead?
