Today was the day!!! My Son Lochlan turned 6 today. Just today his Mom brought him by my work to see me. He wanted to try to shoot my bow. I have a space I can shoot it there. He just can't pull it back. He said to me "Daddy, I wish I had a bow I could shoot." "Maybe someday." I said. lol!
Little did he know, a very generous family here on trad gang had sent a bow, quiver, homemade arrows, extra self dyed feathers, points, glove...everything for him.
He hit the target with EVERY shot. EVERY ONE!!!
His 3rd shot actually hit the bull!! I was amazed!!
The arrows laying on the grass did hit the target. They just didn't have the umph to stick in at that range.
I told him about the family passing the bow to him and when we have outgrown it we have to pass it to another. He thought that sounded fun. Of course I did add in he'd be able to get a new bow that fit him when he's bigger.
What a great act of kindness. Great way to help bring in new archers.
I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
I'm a proud DADDY!!

So very, very, very cool!
Thanks for sharin'!
Keep it FUN - is the goal for this age. Popping BIG balloons *always* goes over well.
Apply the FORMULA and finish the activity BEFORE you wear him out so that he is chompin' at the bit to do it AGAIN.
And finally - did I say - keep it FUN - always?
There will be lots of time to have pressure-filled situations in the future....
Life is good!
Shoot straight, Shinken
The Dude is stylin'!!

that's just the coolest!! My son is 5 and waiting, like yours was. When I recieved my last bow from Ed Holcomb I opened the box and discovered that he sent along a second bow....a 50". 24# 57 bear recurve..just for my son...NO CHARGE!! I was speachless and then called him asap!! He told me all a child has to do is smile at him and they'll get a bow...what a first class gentleman and super person!!! My son can't quite handle it yet..but it's coming...world needs more of these guys....great story zradix..love that smile on your sons face...john

awesome
Gotta love it!!!!
The finest thing that I know about kids,
If you throw it high uptop shoulder, they'll carry it.
Just one more reason to give it up for the kids.
And that sir...is what it's all about. Nothing beats shooting with your kids. Congrats to You!
Gotta love that smile! That's the bestreason to shoot with my boys!
Very cool! Congrats on your new shootin buddy!
Great story and photos. He will outgrow that Spiderman t-shirt, but not his love for watching arrows fly. Here's wishing you and your son many years shooting bows together. :clapper:
John,
That is a happy young man! And he has such a beautiful place to shoot with his Dad.
OkKeith
Great story, Fine looking young man. You'll enjoy many years of fun sharing archery with him.
Had a trad ganger send me a bow for my youngest a couple of years back. I posted WTB and he just sent it. I was amazed. (not any more - I was a new member then). Last year we passed it on to another youngster with a bunch of arrows and a tab. And I suppose that family will do the same.
The best part was I told my son there was a young boy needing a bow to learn on and the first thing he said was "Isn't it time we passed my first bow along". He sure learned more than archery from that gesture, don't you think?
Nice post

Well said.
We should all be so lucky to take lessons learned during one aspect of our lives and apply them to a seemingly unrelated endeavor in order to better the lives of ones around us and through such our own.
Thanks for all the comments everyone!
Awesome!
