Title: Actual string length for a 58" recurve

I always thought it was about 4" short than the AMO length of the bow...is that right?

Thats what I have been told 4" recurve and 3" longbow.

AMO length is 3" shorter than marked length regardless of recurve or longbow. Lots of bowyers don't follow AMO though so it could be all over the place. Best thing to do is measure the string that came off the bow.

It depends on the maker! Your Black Widow, Jerry should run about 3". One of the few that are!

That's why they call them Custom Bows!

AMO gets kinda technical.  Easy answer is 3" shorter than the AMO bow length, measured under 100# of tension on 1/4" pegs.

That being said, it depends on the bow, how you like it braced, etc.  I've seen recurve strings vary from 2.5" to 6" shorter, longbow strings from 1.5" to 5" shorter.
