Title: Too Close for Comfort!
Post by: longbowman on May 03, 2010, 11:07:00 AM
My son and I were longbowing for turkey Saturday morning and had 3 gobblers roosted.  At first light I quietly tree yelped and all 3 found me so I just shut up and waited.  I heard 4 birds come off the roost and was getting shifted into position to call when I heard #5 coming and saw the longbeard coming right at me.  At 30 yds. he landed in a skinny maple and I was caught right in the open.  He stayed long enough for my foot to go numb when I finally lifted the handle on my box call I was caught holding with my thumb and let it drop.  He began head bobbing and suddenly came out of the tree right at me!  At about 10 ft. he flapped his wings and turned landing an arms length away from me!  Needless to say none of this generated a shot but it sure generated some pumped up hunting!

Wow awesome. Should have chopped his head off with a swinging limb of that long bow. Now that would have made a good story. Haha.

Perfect !!!!!!

D

As mentioned above a bow can become an expensive club in a defensive situation.

Throw the bow at him next time. Might stun him long enought to get a shot off.

I wear a "leafy" suit and it seems to work really well (obviously).  My son wears a ghilley and has had great success with it.
